Using Google Earth to pinpoint your site

Postby Wayne on Tue Apr 13, 2010 6:32 am

I notice Google Earth/maps have been used a few times for various things, I'm just wondering if there is a way it can be used to show the location of a visited campsite for others to look at.

I know I can take a screen-shot of it and then just attach it as a picture, but is there a way to link, so google earth actually starts up from the like and then anyone can zoom in and out and look at the surrounding area etc.

Am I making sense :?

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Hi
With google maps you can log in to google and then create your own map.

With this map you can add pointers, markers and information.
Each marker can have an expandable bubble in which you can add info and hyperlinks to other items such as pictures.

You can then save the map for future use and also ckick on the link icon which will give you code to embed in a website or to send in an email or post here so others can access your map.
This is what i did with the camping forum campout map.

OK, cool. Thanks for the reply's.

I often look at campsites we like the sound of from Google Earth, when I can find them and also using street map.

We also often google earth potential camp sites.
The only thing that bugs me is that it can be a bit out of date (as for the Pillaton site which just shows as farmland with ponds)

It's there Andy
As youturn into the site from the road it's a bit like an industrial site but you book in then go past it and down to what just looks like farm fields - you can make out the 'pools' on google earth.
I was a bit off put at first but glad we went for it in the end.
