Things to do while camping

Postby Rob-merlin1973 on Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:43 am

So we go camping and enjoy the fresh air go for walks etc..
but whatt else do we do....

Last year i purchased a 2.5m power kite from ebay like this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Power-Kite-2-5m-2 ... 2a0455aab3
And it was a lot of fun but then hearing about kite jumping and getting a lot of pull from this (but not enough to lift my 16 stone frame) i decided to upgrade.

So i again visited Ebay and purchased a 4.9m kite like
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Flexifoil-Blade-I ... 27aecc78df

OMG first outing was on the beach at shell island with a 30mph crosswind ...... took off as per the instructions hit the power area and this slim chappie went about 6ft up and travelled for about 20ft before chickening out.
Best fun to be had and it's a bloody good workout aswell.
Word of warning though... ;) If the kite comes down and needs untangaling DO NOT ask the wife to hold the kite bars..... I did .... the kite went up ....the wife went down and then was dragged about 60 ft across the field.

Bless her though she never let go :? But needless to say i was in the dog house for a while.

Hi Guys

There is loads to do on camp trips :) . One occasion with the lads not so long ago we done a bit quad biking, It was only for about an hour but a good activity to put in the the mix of stuff to do for the day.

Another occasion; hiking the fells (the Lakes) for a few days on my lonesome. I hiked during day, on the way back there must have been 4 really good pubs within about 3-4 miles of each other, I stopped at about 3 pubs had a beer or two at one, then walked to the next, and so on :D . You sober from the last one from walking. The ales were great; beers i had never tried before. I walked back to the campsite a lttle wobbly, pitch black with an I Pod on, singing away. This was a great thing to do while camping after getting stoned on the top of the fells by hails.

Planned and prepared, or totaly unprepared. There is loads to do for each different trip. My webage for things to do may provide some ideas ! http://www.smart-camping-guide.com/things-to-do-while-camping.html
There is a link for camping with the children for games etc, also a link at the bottom of the page for tips shared by visitors, or you could share yours !

Thought i would add a bit more to this.

The usual camping trip is in a field so the first thing we take for the kids is the bikes, a simple 2 wheeled toy will keep my tribe amused for hours as most kids love nothing more than riding around with a bit of freedom to explore :D , and as long as they are aware of the roads and not to interfere with other campers all we be fine. :D

We usually go out around the local area during the day and eat out or take a picnic then back to the site for tea.
The kites are good fun and so is the football. If you are by the coast then the kids will usually love to go fishing or crabbing and generally messing about on and in the water.

We tend to stay away from the site club (if there is one) and prefer to relax on the night with a bit of fodder and multiple bottles of magners. If you can have a camp fire then the kids love to get the marshmellows roasting and a tub of glowstick bands will keep them entertained untill snooze time.
As to other evening activities BE AWARE !!! tents have no soundproofing and the neighbours will hear everything and you will wake up to knowing smiles from all around :o

I tend to try and arrange my camping trips so that they coincide with beer festivals. Not so great with the kids, but great fun otherwise!
