Family tent that can pitched by 1 adult

Postby Dotty on Sat Jul 31, 2010 9:47 am

When my children (now 10 and 7) were little we managed with a small pop up tent (Decathlon) now we need something bigger and that we can stand up in (I'm 5' 3'') I always go alone with the kids (husband won't camp) so I need something I can pitch on my own. My budget is limited -preferences are 1 bedroom to share or split into 2, sewn in ground sheet, big enough for 4 and small enough when packed to get into a hatchback car along with kids, sleeping bags, and 'stuff'. I've looked at Vango Apoloo 500. Any suggestions/ advice are welcome.

Whats your budget dotty?

At go outdoors at the moment they have a vango vista 800 at £129.99 you could get away with only using the one bedroom section and use the other end of the tent as a large living area, it shouldnt be hard to erect either being a tunnel tent it means theres only 4 poles to it.

Hi Dotty and a warm welcome to the forum.

I'll say no more until I hear your budget, but I'm thinking Tigris 400

360

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

We've been thinking about this ourselves recently , Angela fancies something she'd be able to pitch herself ( or with a little help from our 9 year old ) , for the odd occasion my work commitments get in the way , ( I recently had to pitch the minnesota and extension then rush off to work and then join them the following day )

Anyroad , One that's caught my eye is Gelert's "Nebula 4" and would deffo like to see in the flesh and have a good look at ... Standing hieght .. SIG ... 5000 HH ... alloy poles , so not as heavy as the steel poles of our outwells ... mesh screens on the doorways .... simple tunnel design .... all sounds good "on paper"

Think we'd wait till out of season and see if theres any " mega deals" about

Sounds like a good tent Dave, especially Alloy Poles and 5000 Hydrostatic.

Is it this one from Outdoorworlddirect, Beyond by Gelert, Nebula 4.

Never had any dealings with Gelert tents, but it looks a cracker.

Yeah , that's the one , Wayne

Like the way the Gelert logo is on the no-see um mesh screen , less chance of forgetting it's there and trying to walk through it , which I nearly did once after a few beers , lol .

Dogs can't see the mesh and always run through it aswell, we have seen that a few times so make sure if you take the dog you don't use the mesh vents lol.

The nebula is a really nice tent, the beyond range has that little extra class and quality to it over gelert. Dead easy to put up aswell
