A *very* dumb tent question

Postby BrandNewDay on Tue Jul 27, 2010 2:05 pm

Would a cheap little 2-man tent be able to set up indoors? Or does one need to poke something into the ground in order to get the poles to work?

Here's what I'm thinking of getting for use as sleeping pods in the tepee:

the poles should be fine but that tent would need to be pegged out.
You may be better off with the pop up tent

So, the tent has to be pegged into the ground in order to stand up? Only pop-up tents aren't like that?

I think you're right, though, about the other style being better! Not sure how a St. George motif would go over in Scotland, though.

Reviews say that they're a pain to collapse, but I suppose I could put up with that. They're cheap and would suit the purpose very well.

OK... I am sorry to ask this, again, but I just want to be sure... would this tent be able to be set up indoors, or must it have pegs sunk into the ground?

Most of the pop-up tents are too small/narrow.

I know that this would work, but I'd rather spend a lot less money for something to be used to sleep in, under cover:

I get it, now... the first one had some slack bits in the front. Of course we can just set those up and they'll sit on the floor.

the little one from B&Q should just be poles with pins in the bottom holding the main structure. Its very similar to the Next one I have got in the garden for my daughter to play in.

You can just see it under her climbing frame, It may wander round you tent a bit though when you trying to get in and out

We use velcro slips in our shop with a clip on them, clip it onto the ring and pin and attach it to the carpet. Works nicely! Not sure where you would get them though.

Cheers

As nobody seems to have asked ... why do you need to pitch a tent inside?

The tent I've got is a teepee, and so won't have any inner chambers. That means less privacy and also it means it could be colder while sleeping at night. So, it occurred to me that having little tents inside (it's a very big tent) would mean we could have sleeping pods that could be removed during the day and stored in the car. Or, alternately, kids may prefer to in their own tent outside the big tent, provided the weather is fine.

If you're getting a pop-up, as suggested, they don't flatten out at first, but they will do if left for a while with something ridged along the bottom of the inside of the tent (like an air bed) and something heavy over the outer polls (The polls that go all around the edge of the outer side of the tent) to keep it flat during that time

Hi, I respect your trying to camp on a tight budget and I strongly admire that, you seem t have come up with a fairly original concept. Will be interesting to hear your feedback on your camps.

All the best and happy camping :D

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...
