Would you like to run a campsite?

Postby in-a-tent on Tue Jun 15, 2010 8:50 am

Was wondering how many campers dream of running their own site.

Me me me

A couple of years ago ourselves and another family looked into purchasing a site in cornwall.
It had 6 small cottages 2 fishing pools and a lot of land that could have been developed in to a campsite.

We looked in to purchasing and running it between us but the repayments on the 1.1mill pricetag would of left us very tight on the repayments and if anything had gone wrong we would have been stuffed.
I can't remember the name of the place but they still email me offers so i will post it when i find out :D

I'm not sure.

Some days I think yeh, then other days I think No. I figure running one is a world away from enjoying camping on one.

Do I really want to deal with the following problems:

1. Peeps demanding refunds because it rained.
2. Peeps playing music late at night.
3. Peeps complaining the wind is too strong.
4. Peeps complaining the grass is the wrong shade of green.
5. Peeps complaining the water is too hot/cold

the list is endless  , we've all seem them, they think there checking into a 5star hotel and look like they just trod in something.

Would it put me of camping, running a campsite it would be a sort of Busmans holiday wouldn't it.

I'll tell you what I have always fancied, "a Saturday job at the Yeomans Camp Show" talking to people all day about tents and camping

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

I think its somthing I would love to do.. I also think it would be enjoyable.. however I'd never take the risk.. well not at this point anyway! kids to young.. My wifes father was looking at a farm in the south of france a few years back that had land, he was looking at doing a B&B with view to taking tenters also.. That risk would have been far easier lol..

Wayne are you saying the brittish public tend to complain more than they praise??? surley not never! ;)

If you want to suceed you need to learne how to deal with complaints.. master that and your sorted!

Heres a tip for you!

I think it appeals to me because i live in a very built up area (Medway), & it's getting worse, anything to get me into a more remote place, i'll give a go. :D

Conversations in our house often start with "when I run my campsite...."

So, when I run my campsite you're all welcome to come and complain about the colour of the grass ;)

 I don't care what colour of green it is as long as its not muddy green, long green or water logged green. :D

I would quite like to look into running a campsite, but there must be a huge amount of work involved. Not sure I could cope with the technical side, ie, electricity tripping out, toilets blocking up etc, etc, but would leave that side of things to Wayne, probably! When we went to the North Wales campsite where they were still getting things up and running, there looked like a massive amount of man hours involved (they were working every day and were also looking after cottages with hot tubs too ) I suppose it is nice once you can sit back a little and get a manager in to oversee stuff, but that must take years.
