camping is def. cheaper than caravanning, site fees are less too and it's all a lot easier to store. (our enormous tent is in the cupboard under the stairs atm in it's bag)

The issues we had with condensation were on a very cheap tent that had no ventilation. most modern new tents are very well vented despite some have sewn in ground sheet.

this ear plug thing do you get many undesireables tenting? i guess a tent full of same sex may be a problem?.with the caravan i stay at tower farm in llangollen it as a seperate tent field and i have not heard or seen any problem with campers.if any of you guys want the link to this sit please say.llangollen is a must stay place

Have to admit mate we have never had a problem.
Most campsites do not allow same sex groups and have a quiet time at night where music has to be off or down to a reasonable level
I go to shell island a lot and you may get groups of tents camped together but they always seem well behaved and quiet after 10.

good to hear.most sites do not have same sex i know by staying in my caravan i see this.respect is the word or else its a waste of time going to have somone elses nuisance.

no i didn't mean the undesirables (re ear plugs) but as tents provide no sound proofing at all then even a loud snorer in the next tent can keep you awake. there are lots of quite legitimate noises in the night you might want to avoid, babies crying, dog's barking,foxes (do they howl?), owls, rain, wind through the trees or just the dawn chorus. it's not that you need them but they can be a life saver if you happen to find that the middle of a field in the middle of the night is not as quiet as you might hope.

you're not insulated from the sounds around you in a tent and so if at the end of the day (literally) something does disturb you it's good to have a solution to hand and ear plugs are so cheap and small they're easy to stuff in your wash bag just in case.

Its not unusuall for display tents to have water inside. 99% of the time this is due to the fact that the tents on display have the doors opened up all day. so any rainfall enters the tents. Normally if you were camping the slightest rainfall and the doors come down.. for displays they just dont worry about it as by the time they have gone round each tent and closed them all the sun is out again.

So dont worry to much about the water inside its normal for displays

Other than the standing water what did you think?

we have seen the montana a few times now and its the one we would go for,love all the gear you can buy,cookers on stands all of it looks great.even if we keep the caravan im sure we will get this tent and all the gear to give us more options for weekends away.one fear i have is putting the dog on a tether outside,he will without doubt get tangled up in all those guy ropes.

Nor forgetting that throughout the year yemomans also put displays on up and down the country. Dates not on the site yet. but some dates are listed in camping magazine this month. I'll post them later when i get home

The biggest problem regarding condensation is that 90 + % of all tents now are sewn in units which mean that the groundsheet is sewn into the flysheet. This creates a lovely cosy draught free tent....but............it also creates a sealed in box of a tent. People want tents to be totaly waterproof and this means putting a coating on the outside of the material which allows it to be waterproof but of course will not allow moisture from inside to get out. We could of course make tents with a breathable fabric but that would push the costs of tents very quickly upwards and that would not suit 99% of the tenting population.

The simple answer to the majority of condensation problems is to have as many venting places as possible to allow the circulation of air within the tent.
I see and talk to so many people with all their vents shut especially in the bedroom areas and then they complain that the tent leaks ,which is weird as its not rained for a week whilst they were on holiday.

one fear i have is putting the dog on a tether outside,he will without doubt get tangled up in all those guy ropes.

I should not worry about this.. there are usually not many guy ropes out front of the tent and there is usually enough room on pitches to give him enough space.
