What Stove for a Bell Tent

Postby Skeg on Wed Nov 02, 2011 1:04 am

Hi newbie here though not to camping, but i have just splashed out on a 5m Bell Tent which hasnt yet been put up, so quite excited about that, hopefully it will be used on Boxing day, but only if i can get a Stove for it, as the wife says no to December camping!!

Basically I am looking for a stove with Flu Kit to fit the tent, about the best one i have seen is this one from Bell tent uk

http://www.belltent.co.uk/index.php?mai ... ucts_id=58

unfortunately its about £450 and that is obviously alot of money, though while looking around various sites it does look the neatest and alot of thought has gone into it, so i am wondering if this is the best way to go and lump the money on it, better to be safe than sorry??

so basically what i am asking is, are there better / cheaper / safer / easier fitting options out there? have you done it, is it easy? if so I would appreciate some advice....

Many thanks in advance

I know a few people who have done this (the results are very toasty). I will ask them to come over & point you in the right direction.

Weather they actually come or not, is an entirely different matter.......

(one of them has a blog, which may have some info on it. here comes the link.....

4 Canvas tents (various sizes)
3 Plastic tents (various sizes)
& 1 Tin tent (yes, I'm a turn-coat, but it has a canvas awning)

HI!

I looked at loads of stoves before going for one from K P Woodstoves

Given Kevan a ring if you have any queries, but he also does a bespoke bell tent kit as well. He will adapt the stoves to side or top flue so it's your choice. Delivery is usually about 2 weeks

Don't go with a 2kw pipsqueak etc, it's not enough heat for a 5m bell if you are planning on camping over the winter

Look for a 4kw minimum

Incidentally he supplies belltent

There is a quite a bit about the stoves on my blog if you delve through!

Hi skeg :welcome:
The warmest is the solid fuel stoves provided they are set up correct check this link out tent-accessories/topic4037.html
But the easiest and safest are the Tentipi Etna/Heat Pal 510 http://www.tauntonleisure.com/tentipi-e ... -510/p1840

There are also tentipi wood burning stoves designed for their tipi's but could be also used in a bell tent with the appropriate chimney outlet. http://www.tauntonleisure.com/tentipi/b152
My self I would go for the heat/pal and one of these http://www.fishingwarehouseshop.co.uk/p ... ts_id/1580
The bag on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRAKKER-Peach ... 3a6bf25683
With plenty of under-bed insulation
Good look

Hi,

we hire out bell tents and have tried several different types of fires and can tell you with out a doubt the best place to get on for a bell tent is KP stoves ( http://www.kpwoodburningstove.co.uk/ ) we have tried the bison one and looked over the tentipi ones, and they really dont compare in quality, if you want a good quality one see Kevan at KP stoves, another really good maker is Ed Parp down in cornwall, though he does not do the specific bell tent flue system as Kevan does. You can check out pics of our bell tent stoves on our website www.cariadcanvas.co.uk or in our flick galley at http://www.flickr.com/photos/cariadcanvas/ which shows the set up of the flue and how it is secured. If you are using a stove in a bell tent especially in one that has not been fireproofed then make sure you take all the precasutions you can, re ventilation, fire extinguisher/blanket.
I would recommend that you try staying away from the very small stoves sold by certain bell tent companies they are too small practically to keep a fire going in and you will spend more time chopping down wood to feed than you will enjoying the warmth.
Hope that helps :ugeek:

Some excellent "REAL WORLD" advice there, coupled with a few facts, from a reliable & trustworthy source.

Thank you very much. :D

The only thing I would add myself is a carbon monoxide detector, as these stoves have the potential to give off a lot if something goes wrong with the flue seals.

I also know someone else (on another forum) who has recently purchased a Bell Tent, he also went to KPstoves & was very happy with the service he received. So another recommendation.

As yet I haven't actually heard from anyone who has actually used one of the Tentipi etna heatpals, all I know is they are a bit pricey & run off meths. I would love to see a review though.

Lovely pics on your flickrpage cariadcanvas. Would quite like to try a bell tent to see what it's like. Maybe next year :-)
