Pro's/Con's of buying a new tent at this time of year

Postby janeypoos on Fri Sep 03, 2010 6:23 am

Is there really any point in me buying a new tent at this time of year when I know that I'll be lucky to get maybe two weekends maximum out of it until next year?
I really really want a new one but it's just going to sit in or on top of a cupboard for possibly 8 months and the tent I'm after isn't that cheap.
Do the manufacturers bring out new models of each tent each year or is it likely that I'll still be able to get the one I want (Vango Tigris 400 dlx) in spring?
Any thoughts anyone?......................

They bring out new models every year, some models get rolled over from one year to the next and some get dropped If the tent you are looking at is one that's dropped next year then your chances of finding a new one for sale next year are pretty low I'm afraid.

You could try to find out off vango if they are going to continue making the model you are interested in next year. They are on twitter http://twitter.com/vango and facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vango/176135271668 or they have a contact us form on their website http://www.vango.co.uk/contact-us.html

at the moment, tents are as cheap as you are going to get them for a long time.

dont forget VAT and manufacturing costs both rise for 2011. Also as someone pointed out, make sure the tent you go for is continued so you can continue to buy all the additional accessories in 2011. if you let me know what your interested in i have a good idea of what rolls on for 2011 and what doesnt, be careful with Vango though - they are changing a lot of colours.

Thanks for that. It's the Vango Tigris 400 dlx that I'd really like but I'm having a problem locating anywhere that still has the Vango Premium Extension to go with it. I don't want to buy the tent this year without the extension just in case I can't get hold of (or afford) the extension next year.

Jane

does it have to be the Premium Extension? Would a canopy suffice instead? the only reason I say is that Lichfield are owned by AMG Group, who also own Vango, and Lichfield canopies are being sold via Argos for a tiny price. check out the link

damn and blast, they're now out of stock.. but worth keeping an eye on.

I have a Premium Extension and it was great when we used it in June. I also want a canopy for the times when I don't think the extension will be necessary.

Thanks for that tip @ GirlRacerRed, I'll have a nose about and see if I can find one anywhere else.
As you've got the premium can I ask if you know the dimensions at all? I was just looking on a shop site and the premium (still sold out) is actually cheaper than the tunnel extension but looks bigger which is confusing me a bit as I can't work out why a bigger extension would be cheaper??
The main reason I want an extension is so we can have the front door open regardless of the rain (as we ALWAYS have rain!), I'm fed up of opening doors to get soaked from the water above the door! I know the side door has a porch but to be able to use the main entrance without getting wet would be luxury, lol!

I stand corrected! Just found the dimensions and the tunnel extension is bigger, looks a lot smaller though and hasn't got the window which would be nice to have.
Oh well, the search continues, lol!

hi Jane

Glad to hear you've been able to find the premium extensions dimensions. From what I recall, it's 310cm wide and around 200cm tall. We slide it over the front of our Venture 500 so that it's tight in against the tent (no draughts for me please).

I've just been reading a review on another website, and somebody else reckons that they were able to erect the premium extension over their Tigris 400 front door. Ideally what you need to do is find somewhere that has both items in stock, and then go and try it all out for yourself!

i'll keep my eyes peeled for stock
