Hi, we have never taken out insurance but was wondering if it provided value for money....

The only time I've had to cancel a campsite booking was due to flooding and we only lost our deposit (£15 - probably less than an insurance policy).

We camp with two kids and a large dog and it occured to me that we may not be covered in the event of my kids/dog damaging the site or somebody elses tent or gear. I've always assumed the pet insurance will cover the dog and the kids know better ;)

However, with our recent luck with holidays I think it's only a matter of time before I actually get flooded whilst camping and replacing water damaged sleeping bags, stoves, clothing, etc could work out quite expensive.

I guess I had assumed the household insurance would cover us, but that was an assumption.

I doubt it would cover third party damage (like the kids rampaging someone else's kit)

I'd always assumed household/pet insurance would cover most eventualities but the more I think about what could happen - burning down the tent, getting all our gear pinched, kids flooding out the campsite washrooms - the more I wonder if we should get cover for the coming season.

Has anyone looked to see what that sort of cover would cost and if it is available?

Just did an example quote for £800 tent + £200 of kit.

Your quote for your camping equipment is: £1.50 per lunar month

Type of camping equipment Tents
Camping equipment stored at CaSSOA Gold address? No
Insured value of the tent/trailer tent/folding caravan £800
Insured value of any additional items (contents etc.) £200
Are you a member of a caravan club? No
Is there an approved tracker fitted? No
Worldwide extension required? No
Payment Interval Lunar Monthly

from these people - http://www.eandl.co.uk/

The C&C club do insurance too, but you have to be a member (we are but i can't find out number to get a quote)

Not many others do http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&si ... arch&meta= (clubcareinsurance is the C&C club's insurance arm).

Aaah now heres the differenc.. we have not insured our kit directly. but taken normal holiday insurance out for set period of time. you just have to be sure the one you take out covers camping equipment.. i'll check out when i get home later and report back.

When you are home all is covered by house insurance anyway :)
