This is a great idea and really useful. Getting it sorted now myself.

Can I check something though - was reading and one site suggested the coupling has a directional valve. Is that correct?
If so, can you confirm that you have the male connector attached to the hose on the stove and the female connectors attached to the regulator hose? (I have seen a regulator pre-fitted with a quick release coupling and it was the male connector...).

(For what it's worth, going for patio gas - want propane since we're in Scotland (not known for our tropical climate - and we camp for a pretty long season in conditions where butane wouldn't work well), inter-operates with our BBQ, also like the GasTrac and a nice little bonus is that the small patio gas cylinder has nice to handle plastic grips(!)....).

cheers

The only time it matters which way round they go is if one of the connectors is "self-sealing" (IE: when you disconnect the pair, one of them will shut off automatically to prevent escape of gas).

If this is the case, the self-sealing bit (usually the female side of things) should be connected to the gas bottle/regulator. This will help if you are swapping appliances over.

Also, if it is self-sealing, you can employ a "T" or "Y" piece & connect 2 outlets to one regulator, therefore meaning you can operate more than one appliance at a time.

I wouldn't worry about these fittings (anyone who thinks they might not be up to the job), LPG works on less than 50mBar (which is 0.725psi), you could easily breathe harder than that. The fittings are used for high pressure gas/air lines at well over 100psi

I only learned the other day that household gas is only 40mBar, not much really.

I like the idea of these Quick Release couplings - I reckon I might do the same for my new Camping Chef stove as it does sound easier than trying to remove the hose every time from the huge coupling on it..

Would I be right in thinking these fittings are the same sort as used by the posh end caravans which have a gas outlet outside for gas BBQ's etc?

(Might come in handy when Wayne relents and buys a caravan so we can sneak over and plumb into HIS gas supply during future meets... :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: )

I have a y piece and quick release for my gas to run the cooker and fridge and it works a treat.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Most of the caravan ones are just a nozzle, as far as I know.

It doesn't do the hose any good to be messed about with in such a way, every time you use it. It's quite a heavy task to squeeze it onto that nozzle every time, & if that's the case I would be inclined to shorten the hose at the beginning of each season, to get rid of the worn end.

My brother fitted a quick release fitting onto his trailer tent kitchen. He found one with the correct screw thread on the male end, so it just screwed straight on to the kitchen, thus eliminating the short piece of hose, which meant he was effectively removing one more connection on the line.

More & more people are using them these days, they're a great solution.

its not difficult to fit regulators and nozzles onto 8mm hp hose, just give the barbed end of the nozzle a wipe over with fairy liquid, it eases the fitting and helps the hose to slide on better..

think them things should be available made into part of the regulator, so its all just quick connect ect, sounds a good idea, wonder why nobody ever thought of it before..

Thanks for the replies....

Here's the link where it suggests the coupling is valved:
http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/8 ... ml#aHA035H

Also, and I haven't found this elsewhere, you can actually buy just the male part:
http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/8 ... l#aHA035SN

(Except that doesn't help... since would want multiple female parts for attaching to different regulators...)

cheers
