Postby mark e on Wed Jun 01, 2011 8:07 am

I know it's been covered but what i want to know is how do you guys and girls find small galvanised trailers ?

Want to buy a 400kg galvanised trailer with lid ( £650 ) over a home made wooden trailer. Built my own before we bought the motorhome. But sold it now, the motorohme so looking at getting a trailer again.
Had pup tent > caravan > family tent > motorhome > Gelert Beyond Corvus 6+2 tent with trailer and top box. Lol.

We used to have an erde 143 which was great, solid and well put together, light enough to move around by hand and so on. The only down side is the cost of them and their accessories. We only sold the erde when we bought our trailer tent and we had nowhere to keep it.

We have a small galvanised 3' x 3.5' with self built raised sides and we find it ideal for us.

Congrats on the baby trailer! I've now used mine for camping and can't fault it. There was 700 litres of space in it and all sorts went there!

Image

It weighs 75kg on its own and even fully loaded I did not notice it was there to be honest! Got it from eBay with all the trimmings for £220. The high sided kit and tarpaulin in its own is worth £155!

And because the car was now basically empty it meant the bikes could go inside to save on fuel and keep them secure:

Here it is then. Built by my father and me. Put everything in it just, but should have gone bigger in all honesty.
Anybody got a cheap roofbox for sale :bang: :tune:

I looked at that trailer with the framed sides and was a bit worried that it may not hold all the stuff in with just the cover so decided against it and made my own sides.

LOL. Which is exactly why you see so many 122s and 4x3 and 4x4 foot trailers on eBay. People buy them, use them one trip, realise they are way too small and upgrade. The ideal size is the Erde 142/Daxara147 twins - ie 5x4 foot. But they are a LOT more expensive just to get that extra foot. Since I did not know what I'd want either or if I'd even get on with having a trailer, mine is a 4x3 too and to be honest the 700 litres it gives me is plenty.

I bought some cheap foldable crates from Tesco and now pack everything in that - http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-8043.aspx. So it does not matter that the sides are tarpaulin and not solid. Nothing can fall out as you don't pack a trailer that way! And if you do then you need just buy a cheap elastic net to go over everything before you put the tarpaulin over. Much cheaper than solid sides.

Well thing about camping and the british weather is, as we found on our last camp that things go where they fit when its raining and your packing up to go home.

Seconded. :D

I was at a car show in Bromley yesterday and my gear was packed as best I could but not where it should be.

we have an erde 142 , now with ABS topbox for the overnight stops on the way down to cornwall. we also have the roof bars and bike racks on them.

got it from Chester Towing and trailers and they gave us a very good deal. before that it was 2 cars for the annual fortnight camp in Cornwall . the rise in the cost of fuel means the trip this year will cover a huge chunk of buying the trailer. plus its great for taking all the garden waste etc to the tip.
Quechua 6.2XL , and now an OUTWELL Vermont XLP . not as bitey in real life as i seem online.

Good one

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Don't tempt me.

My next major job is sorting the tailgate out, its so heavy with 2 lots of inch thick chipboard. I plan to make it a lot lighter and stronger and tidier.

I want some chequer plate, nothing to thick, maybe 2mm aluminium would be fine or maybe even 1.5mm. What I have seen is 2M by 1M at £75, that can't be right can it :o

It could be steel, don't have to be aluminum.
