European break down cover

The Autobahn

Germany has one of the of largest motorway networks ever. Driving is a pleasure! It’s not all speed as people say. Yes some drivers do go very fast but not all! Lane discipline is very good with nearly all drivers only pulling into the outside lane to overtake and then promptly moving back over. Just drive as normal and move over as soon as you have over taken as the Germans do! The exits and entrance can sometimes be confusing and without a doubt at some point you will take the wrong one! Sat Nav comes in very handy at this point redirecting you back on track.

Green Zones

Several cities in Germany are implementing new "Green Zones" into which only vehicles displaying a "Pollution Badge" are allowed to enter. Vehicles not displaying a badge could be liable to pay around a €40 fine.

You can get a badge by taking your car and your vehicle registration document (V5) to a range of outlets (including repair centres, car dealers, MOT stations and vehicle licensing offices) in participating cities. The badge should cost around €5-€10, and will last for the life of the vehicle.
