Delta Pegs

Postby Andy on Tue Feb 24, 2009 9:35 pm

So Winter will soon be over! and we can get back out on pitch! Well like all winters when the camping stops i take up my winter hobby! Buying camping stuff! which brings me onto this post. I purchased some pegs called Delta Pegs And i have to tell you they are well worth the purchase!!

They come in three options, Yellow plastic, Grey plastic and Steel. We opted for the Yellow plastic they arrived this morning and although much larger than you average tent peg you can see they are not only very clever but also well worth the purchase. You may not think it at first but those sharp high wind wakeup calls that come knocking at 3am will just have to keep knocking coz with these pegs you have nothing to worry about!

Heres what the manufacture has to say followed by photos of each type

The original and strongest Delta Ground Anchors are produced from tough and corrosion resistant stainless steel channel section. Internal dimensions 12 x 18 x 12 mm, thickness 1.5 mm, standard stainless steel and nylon composite anchors are 150mm X 150mm set at 60 degrees.

This rigid tent peg design was tested up to 200 Kg by 'Marlift' in Plymouth in compacted ground. They have an advised rating of 115 Kg.

The new nylon composite tent peg has been tested at Exeter University at up to 72 Kg, over 1700 times their own weight.

Hello,

I'm glad to see that a few of you have used Delta pegs. Some of you may know me from another forum where we have had hundreds upon hundreds of satisfied customers. Unfortunately, some of the members became a little bit sick of the publicity Delta pegs were getting ( maybe a reluctance to let go of tradition ).

However, there are numerous pegs out there for different soil conditions and we always recommend rock pegs for really hard ground. But, in 'normal soil' Delta pegs are twice as effective as rock pegs and probably the most effective on the market. Please contact me for details.

I hope to be able to arrange a discount for users of this site.

So i finaly got round to trying to actually trying out the delta peg for real taking advantage of the nice warm march weather we have been experiencing (how long will it last?? please oh please!)

Ok so not on our tent, for that we will have to wait, however we did try out on a marquee. these pegs are nothing short of brilliant. the grass was still soggy soft from the rain we have had. Normal steel pegs was just pulling up under the presure so swapped them out for the delta peg that was actually packed away awaiting its first venture when it warms up! despite the soft soggy mud they held fast! even under tight tension. to see how far they would go i even pulled on the guy but still no movemnet.

For me with kids the thing i like most is how flat they sit. im sure those of you who have been camping with kids enough will know its only a matter of time before one of them is crying because they stood on peg head? well not with these they sit flush with the ground (pic attached as example)

Pegs are a funny thing so many people dont worry about them. but i for one say you should not leave home without a good supply of rock pegs! well thats all changed now!

Dont leave home without a good supply of rock pegs AND Delta pegs!

It will definitely take a little time for people to get to grips with the dynamics of Delta pegs. It's understandable as tent pegs haven't changed in hundreds of years. But, after Delta pegs are used, campers don't generally go back to traditional pegs. Hard ground requires rock pegs but in normal soil, Delta withstands twice the load of a rock peg.

As a follow up on this from last year i purchased some mid season.

I have to admit they are amazing, we use them on our guys and front canopy and last year at shell island we had a night of thunderstorms and winds blowing to 45 mph and everything remained planted to the ground.
These are definatly worth the money for any campers new or seasoned, try them :D
