We've not had it tested no, but then again we've only had it 2 weeks and only used it once :-)

Yes but that's my point, they are not tested as such by the manufacturer, we buy this stuff assuming its all ok, but you know yourself how many new things fail to do the job. All our equipment at work has to be tested and entered on the equipment register the day its purchased and brought onto a site.
I was thinking about bringing my tester to the campout and testing any units for members and then I can post the test certs on for anyone who is interested.

Note, whilst a manufacturer might test it to prove it works and is wired up correctly, they are not obliged to prove the RCD actually trips in the given time to the regulations.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Do you plan to replace it at some point with a proper EHU unit (you can still turn your existing lead into an EHU extender if you get a blue socket, which I might have in the shed )
I guess like everything you slowly improve and build your kit over time and for me the home made bit was a quick fix, which I do feel a little ashamed of.

Not this season but over the winter i think i will invest in one. :D

Don't have a garden mate

I did fit an inline RCD to the lead but could not test it so we went camping and the lead was dead.

Ended up taking the RCD off :)

There's a Kampa branded version of that EHU cable at Tag camping for £45 I've just found.

In case anyone is interested.

I like the look of that one with the wire wound around it but the only thing to put me off would be the size

merlin,,

do you mean the roll up one? the one that rolls up like an extension lead, if you do then the packsize of the item is no larger than a standard mains hookup unit. It's just a little bit heavier. We have always had both but i have to admit the the regular hookup is by far more popular.

Me too. We'll be like ex-smokers next season, sighing and pointing at anybody who hasn't got a proper hook-up as if we've always done it the right way.

Keeping it simple & idiot proof ,please.
I've had a read of the thread & I think I got it but thought I'd ask anyway.
We've never used electric in our tent but thinking of changing our ways.
I would like advice on what to get so I can have a small fridge [to put milk & marge in] & a spare socket for either a lamp or the kids DS chargers/ our phone charger if stuck in tent on a rainy day .
[Back in 2008 we had a really really wet day & all I could find to do was drink tea & used up nearly all the tea bags]
This is to be used in Europe.
Cheers for any help.
