@Gooutdoors What is your thoughts on Hi gear tents

Postby Seye on Fri Jul 02, 2010 8:32 pm

Hi Brandon,

Was looking at the zenobia 6 hi gear tent. My only problem is these tents are now manufactured for GO by I think an unbranded company that nobody seems to know much about., So I was looking for a complete unbiased opinion of the quality of the Hi Gear Tents.

I think the point worth noting is that they are manufactured in the same factory as some of the leading brands that we know and buy, obviously go outdoors are unable to state which these brands are.. but at hunch I would say at least one of them is going to be the well known brand that they have done business with before.. it makes sense.. I think that was Gelert if you check the other post.. Besides Go Outdoors are one of the UK's leading retailers that are prepared to not only put their voice and support on a public medium such as twitter but also across this and other forums.. A company is going to do that if they feel confident enough to do so.. one that is comfortable with taking the rough with the smooth.. besides I'm one of those that is of the opinion that a company can very quickly turn the rough into the smooth in the public eye and turn that negative around.. A company should be judged not only by the good things but how it deals with the bad.. It seems to me that they are certainly trying to achieve that :)

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the post. Hi Gear as a brand was designed to make camping accessible to people who maybe couldn't afford your top end Outwell tents. When the Hi Gear tents were designed a lot of research went into the other brands and the designers took on board which bits from other tents worked well.

I own two hi gear tents personally, granted they are the smaller tents the neutron 2 and the pitch and go evo (im not a family camper) but they have worked fine for me and stood up to some serious rain at a recent festival i went too.

My Aunt owns a Zenobia and loves it, she hated camping previously because she's pretty claustrophobic and wanted a tent with a great amount of space, she was advised onto the Zenobia by the guys at our Sheffield store and so far Ive heard no complaints.

You don't have to take my word for it though, there are plenty of customer reviews on our website of the Zenobia tent and a few on other websites around too (not sure if i'm allowed to mention names on here!) from customers who own this tent and have tried it out.

I would always recommend checking a tent out for yourself as well as doing some homework on reviews. We have most of our tent range on display in all of our stores if you want to pop down and check out the quality for yourself. It's also probably the best way to compare.

I understand it can be off putting when it comes to an 'own brand' but many who have taken a leap with Hi Gear have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and this shows in the glowing revues most of these tents get.

I hope this helps,

Brandon

Having had a good look at the Zenobia, I can see it being a tent that ends up joining my collection over Christmas................where will it end (Don't say a Caravan, Merlin  )

There is something about the Zenobia that stands out (and I don't just mean the fact its got one of the coolest tent names I have come across :D ), it certainly looked like it can take a beating and stood up well to store traffic and as I have mentioned on another thread, I like the idea of the metal poles for the porch.

But to fully appreciate it, I'm gonna end up buying one :|

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Thanks for taking the time to reply Brandon,

I checked out the zenobia at your Coatbridge store, and I reckon I chose the best time to scrutinise it bcause it was chucking it down and I mean chucking it. The wind was also howling and I have to say that it stood up very well.

So the pennies are being saved and hopefully soon I will own one with porch :D

I thought the sahaha 6 was incredable what a size of living space it is huge :o

That's good to hear, you found no water coming in then.

The porch is a really good addition on this tent, I think.

I wouldn't be without a porch now ... it makes life so much easier for cooking and just sitting out when the weathers bad :D

Glad you went down to check it out,

i always reccomend looking at them in person because the pictures on our site don't convey their actual size that well. (I for one was shocked when i saw the sheer size of some of them)

It's something we are looking into to make shopping online a little easier for customers.

The Zenobia seems to be a constant customer favourite, by far our most popular family tent this year.

That sounds good, this forum and gallery all started from a search for photos of the trout lake extension and the need to get an idea of the size. so just to have more pics from other angles perhaps include some furniture to help relate to the size would really help your customers..

i bought a zenobia last week, being a tin tenter it was a massive choice for us.ive had two trial pitches at home in which we pitched it 30 minutes each time.i love the space compared to my caravan and there are no sharp corners to bang your hips on unlike the caravan.we are booked to go away on the 24th of july and hope we can enjoy it,im sure we will cause the oh as fell in love with it.if the week proves to be favourable there is talk of selling the caravan and getting more things for the tent,ie trailer would be a good buy.

Not yet, didn't get around to putting it on ebay last night. Will try and remember tonight. Am a bit sad to see it go but we don't have room in the garage for a trailer and the trailer tent and apart from camping we don't use it much.
