Campers heading out with their sleeping bags and stoves to enjoy the good British weather forecast for the summer months have been warned that their holidays could not be as rosy as planned if they fail to insure their belongings.
According to LV=, provider of mortgages, savings and investment products, holidaymakers can sometimes be less aware of the need for insurance if they stay in the UK.
Spokeswoman for the firm Emma Hoyler said that though many campers may commonly associate insurance with falling ill in far-flung destinations, they must remember that they "have various belongings with them on holiday so they have to make sure they have travel insurance policy".
She added: "It could be an annual [or] weekly UK holiday policy, or otherwise, you can extend your home insurance to personal possession cover which covers your clothes, tent and that kind of thing."
Camping is becoming a more popular pastime among Brits, figures from the Camping and Caravanning Club last month show that sites in Scotland and the north-west of England registered a 63 per cent increase in occupancy during the Easter break.
