Sarah has always loved the Trout from the moment she saw it pitched at a show, me too. Out of interest how long does it take to pitch. Wondered if you would give me a small pro's and con's on it. If only I could find one that some rich fool had brought and then decided they didn't do camping after all and was giving away on EBay :P

Its all part of the learning experience.. but as you said wayne.. you can still have that learning experience in a rental :)

Troutlake pitch time. well can have the tent up in about 40 mins.. but to be honest i rate true pitch time on getting the tent up kitchen sorted, bedrooms sorted car unpacked and first beer open..

Which is about an hour 15/hour 30 depending on if i remove the roof box or not. (often take it off as much of the parker in germany especially in city/large towns is underground or is on the locations we have been so far.. we did'nt the first year and found oursleves hunting for parking.. so last your due to the pitch offering us a place to store it out of sight we took it off..

pros and cons.. Hmm well as with many outwells the door/window and mesh is just great keeping the airflow but keeping out the crawlers is brilliant.. the weight is an issue and the steel poles despite being only 4 birth compared to the old 12 dome it takes twice the space.. but the polly cotton in the heat is a must.. the nylon we had to get out the tent 8/9 am every morning it was just to hot. but in the lake we had no problems despite it being far hotter due to a heatwave 36c on some days!! Dont get me wrong they still warm up but opening the windows and its fine.. that made no difference the year before.

wont mention the zig you know about that one already..

I think the biggest thing we found that it is simply comfortable..

The front extension is a must though! we actually used a tarp last time to extend it further!

You know they do a new one this year? you may not want to tell the wife this fact lol 5 birth

Also small changes to the doors.. they now have hoods :)

its tempting even for me lol

Sarah has actually just seen this on EbayTrout + Footprint+Carpet on EBay, and put a bid in at £380 :o , which has been declined. She sent a message saying would go to £390, but she just checked Yeomans and can buy all 3 new at the moment for £478.99 brand new, so its a good offer really.

Hope you don't mind the link to fleabay :?

Is the 5berth a trout lake, you got a link to it any where ??

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Andy, I'm just looking at the dimensions and comparing the TL4 & TL5, do you think 40cm is worth upgrading for. I don't to be honest.
You would have thought if they were gonna make a 5 they would have pushed out a little more and made a 3rd bedroom, isn't the TL5 mirroring the Wolf Lake 5 a little. You have to go to Wolf Lake 7 to get three compartments, Not Even Bear Lake 6 is three compartments. It would have been a nice idea to squeeze a one man/child compartment in (of course make so you can zip it out. What's your thoughts.

Isn't it just, I nearly fell off the chair when I was checking prices, was half out the door with my wallet before I calmed down  .

40cm.. no way its 200 quid more.. I would'nt thats for sure!

How many of you? 4 plus baby if i recall?

Our 4 year old often wakes in the night and comes and gets in with us.. more than enough room..

Personally if the kids are young enough you could have 3 in a troutlake 4..

What sort of beds do you use?

Me and OH are on a double self inflating multimat
Lucy is on a single self inflating mltimat
Amy is on a camp bed, but its quite a small one, no good for an adult
Baby is in its own sleep pod, so would be out in main area  , well its like a third chamber isn't it.

We just use two double air beds..

Boys share a bed.. I'm not sure you would get the sleeping pod in with a dbl airbed though? not unless your putting it on your bed also?

May be worth going to yeomans and ask them to put a dbl air in.. take your sleeping pod along with you.. that way you can see :)

The sleeping pod wouldn't come in our chamber, it would be out in the main area but near our door. During the day it would just be chucked into our sleeping area out the way. Because its a tent in its own right, it wouldn't need the additional warmth from a sleeping area.

Does that make sense. :?

I understand now.. ok so till what age can baby remain in sleeping pod? (babys name? feel rude saying baby lol)

I would be happy putting 3 kids in one pod.. but only until certain ages.. they would get to big so depends on how long you planning on keeping it.. but that said..

Our old blacks tent was exact same size. and our friends that joined us had a popup which they moved into the living space for night time for extra warmth lol

so could be an option.. but depends on how much stuff you keep in the lounge area

I would say Liam is good in the pod for 2 years.

Lucy the oldest is 12 in November, so she will be a weird stroppy teenager by then and want to be in her pup tent by then and Amy will be about 10 and possibly want to join her.

That's kinda my thinking anyway, or yeh a pop up inside.

Remember I still have the Vermont for week+ holidays.
The Trout would be for long weekends and weeks when there are less of us, if girls are on holiday with guides for instances etc.

I forgot about the Vermont lol..

the front section angles inwards so you can move bags and stuff either side of the door.. to be honest we leave ours in that spot anyway..

so small pop up is no problem

I dont have any pics with the popup inside.. wish I had taken them now...

Just moving slightly to left field, anyone considering the Trout Lake 5, might want to look at the Arrow Lake 6

That possibly could be worth an upgrade on Trout4, I fancy that one
