Personally, I have used both standard and double height beds. I always found the double height beds could have you too close to the leaning side of some tents and give you a feeling of claustrophobia as well as a really bad "all at sea" feeling.

We are trying out an airbed this year that is actually half the thickness of a standard airbed from Decathlon. Its seems comfortable whilst giving the impression of a firm'ish mattress. It also comes with its own fitted bottom sheet, quilt, pillows and storage bag. Although in colder months I imagine we will have the sleeping bags as well as the quilt.

For standard single and double airbeds, these are a really good addition

From Amazon, shop round or wait for a good price, I only paid less than a fiver each for the two singles I got.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

I never had much luck with airbeds. I moved over to a normal camp bed in the hope it would be less bulky to carry about, but as it really needs a thin SIM on top, I'm not really saving anything at the end of the day.

I think for bulk, they are all about the same (that's the 3 main sleep systems, SIMs, Airbeds & Campbeds), although camp beds might have a slight advantage.

However, I like my camp bed for 3 main reasons: Firstly; it gets me properly off the ground, which makes it easier to get in & out of & somewhere to sit & put my socks on (although you also get this with a double height airbed). Secondly; you're not reliant on it holding air, I have been "let down" by both airbeds & SIMs in the past. Both can leak, leaving you very uncomfortable, although cheaper ones are more likely to do this. Finally; I get a little storage space underneath my camp bed, which is something you don't get from either of the others. It's only a small thing, but it all helps in a tent.

At the end of the day I think it comes down to personal preference. I would personally like to improve on my camp bed with one of the carp-anglers bad-chairs, but a good one (well, even a crappy one) is quite expensive, they are bulky but there's no need for a SIM on top. But i may get one & decide I don't like it. My camp bed cost me nothing, it was hanging around in my parents' loft, but would've only cost about a tenner anyway. I haven't actually got a cheap SIM for it yet, I just put an old sleeping bag on top & sleep inside a kingsize winter duvet, which is folded in half.

Night night, everybody :bigwink:
4 Canvas tents (various sizes)
3 Plastic tents (various sizes)
& 1 Tin tent (yes, I'm a turn-coat, but it has a canvas awning)

My other passion;

We have an Intex double height (raised) queen size with built in pump, we haven't actually used it camping as yet but inflated it and tested in the front room, where I promptly fell asleep :tune:
They inflate really fast and the pumps not too loud either.
It's fun and games getting them packed away due to the size and they are not the lightest of things but im sure when we use it in June we will appreciate the extra height.
Camping gear all set, now how do I fit it in the car......

Pillows

... forgot to say .... when space is an issue, just take a pillow-case and stuff it with your clothes. We usually have our feather 'duvet' jackets, which make excellent pillows :D :D but woolly jumpers, fleece jackets and the like, all do a cracking job.
Hilleberg Nammatj 3GT, Terra Nova Quasar, Cabanon Andorra & Calais, Outwell Trout Lake, Hi-Gear Ion 3 and hopefully a Field Candy 'Get a Room' coming soon!

As I'm actually back in the black & not overdrawn I decided to go shopping for camping stuff today.
The kids moaned they hated their SIMs we bought last year so decided to get 3 Campingaz quickbeds as my trial run on the double one back in September was a positive one.
see here.
post30345.html?hilit=quickbed#p30345

We drove up to Attwools after checking their website.
Single quickbeds with pillows were listed as £15.95.
http://www.attwoolls.co.uk/Air-Beds-Mat ... ingle.html

When we got there they were on the shelf at £17.95 , I queried this with a member of staff saying 'On your website it's 15 quid'
I'd forgotten the 95p. Honest mistake , wasnt trying it on.
A more senior member of staff came along & with no quibble said , 'yep no problem'.
So bought 3 of them @ 15 quid each. very happy.
Also bought a few 'bits & bobs' we needed too.
Daughter's friend is over tonight for a sleepover & she's using one of them.
I hope she finds it comfortable.
