Moon chairs

Postby 3goglamping on Sat Jan 21, 2012 4:17 pm

Hi,

I have a few things on my 'wishlist' for this year. One of which (2 actually) being some moon chairs.
Two questions - are they actually that much more comfy than normal folding chairs?
Also, how much more room do they take up?
(We currently have the chairs that fold up long and thin, not flat - if that makes sense)

Thanks
Mel

There are two different types of moon chair. One folds flat, so will lay on the bottom of your car boot if it's big enough. The other the folds up the same as your existing chairs, but they are probably about twice as wide when packed.

Flat one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Red-Padded-Fo ... %26ps%3D54

I have a couple of Outwells ones, http://www.amazon.co.uk/OUTWELL-COMFORT ... 437&sr=8-3 They are comfy, but the stitching on one is coming loose.

Have had two difference types of the flat kinds before, one was comfy, the other wasn't, I think with them, the larger they are, the more comfortable.

With both types they are more suitable for lounging than sitting up at a table to eat.

Hi missElainous,

Another convert from 'the other forum', or are you still a member?!

Twice the size shouldn't be too much of a problem I don't think.

Thank you for the advice. I've been looking at the Outwell ones. The ones that fold flat look as though they may rock easily and tip over?
I'm after comfort really, for relaxing in the evenings rather than eating at a table.

Thanks again,
Mel

Yes I'm still a member over there. I like the campsite listings and reviews, and the tent photos.

Didn't have problem with the flat ones tipping over, but the first ones we got from Poundstretcher, looked really good, in cream, to match my tent, but they were too small to be comfortable. When one of them split, I took the opportunity to return both for a refund. I then bought some bigger flat ones from B & Q. These were really comfortable, and easy to pack, one of them fit under the false boot, above the spare tyre, seemed strong enough, but they were recalled, a fault had been discovered in the welding which might have lead to it collapsing. I decided to return these for a refund just in case.

I am happy enough with the Outwell ones for now, I just need to sew the rip in one of them. Nothings built to last is it? :(

Thanks Marshy!

Looks very comfy, but I have to be good. The Outwell chairs I have seen are £60 for two, so I may just go for them...

Of course it depends on what I get for my birthday.....

Oh my goodness me!

Our new Vango moon chairs arrived today and they are enormous!
More than enough room for myself (with a rather ample rear end) and our 4 year old daughter to sit side by side.
I keep reassuring my OH that they will fit in the car with all the other gear (including a few 2012 extras!), but I have been secretly looking at roof boxes!
Right, I have to come up with some space saving ideas in the next couple of months so that I can look smug when it does in fact all fit in the car.
I honestly think that my years of playing Tetris really did serve me well for the future (it works when I buy lots of freezer food!)
Watch this space.

Oh, here's one in all it's loveliness......

we have gelert and higear moonchairs. they fold down a little bigger than a standard folding chair but the comfort is well worth it. got ours from go-outdoors in one of the many sales.
Quechua 6.2XL , and now an OUTWELL Vermont XLP . not as bitey in real life as i seem online.
