Meets & Camp-Outs

Postby nutgone on Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:59 pm

I see the forum's been a bit quiet lately, but seems to be picking up a bit of late. (PLEASE! someone talk about camping!??! :bang: ).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone was considering coming on a forum meet this coming season???

I'm arranging one, down near Hastings, for April (see HERE) & I know there's a northern one in the pipeline.

But, another forum I belong to have quite regular, smaller, meets throughout the year. Some of these are even themed (they had a "Canvas Only" meet & even a "Sh1te Tittle Tent" meet  ).

So, my question is, how does everyone feel about a few different little meets throughout the year??? Obviously in different areas, some could even be based around outdoor pursuits, maybe a meet near Snowdon coupled with a walk up it???

Don't let me stop anyone coming up with ideas & organising something themselves ;) We've got a nice big section for forum camp-outs, so why not fill it up with.....erm....camp-outs?
4 Canvas tents (various sizes)
3 Plastic tents (various sizes)
& 1 Tin tent (yes, I'm a turn-coat, but it has a canvas awning)

We would try to go to the meets, if there was any in the 'real' north. We happily travel up to 2hrs on a friday night for a weekends meet, that gets us to the North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Borders and the lakes.

We go to regular meets with our little club, but we are always on the lookout for new adventures :D :D

Anyway, we are off to the lakes tomorrow night for a weekend of hill walks and Jennings ale, so if anyone is in the area, we are at Rosthwaite campsite, rough but beautifully set. Weather looks good, cold but clear skies and a light breeze, looking good for a bar-b on Saturday night. :D :D

Cars packed, ready to go!
Hilleberg Nammatj 3GT, Terra Nova Quasar, Cabanon Andorra & Calais, Outwell Trout Lake, Hi-Gear Ion 3 and hopefully a Field Candy 'Get a Room' coming soon!

Enjoy!

(I know what you mean about the "Real" north. I just think it anywhere they speak funny ( ) It took me about 3 hours to get to Market Harborough last year, I thought that was north (  ). Trouble is, it's a big country when you're just going somewhere for the weekend).

Ive put up a sort of northern one, its probably way to south for you though, and ive chosen a site that's not to far from Buxton, the thread and info is here http://www.thecampingforum.co.uk/forum/the-camping-forum-campouts-f73/topic3207.html

I cant figure the short code for internal links... sorry

I've seen the thread Mokas, but sadly its a good 3 hours from us :( and on a Friday night you can add another hour on the A1.

We've done a bit of camping around the peak, near Glossop, back in the day when we were climbing a lot, it is a beautiful area.

Meets like these often develop by just putting an invite out there to anyone who would like to tag along, in warmer weather obviously. We are prity laid back and don't usually plan too far ahead, and by that I mean a week or two! :D We only decided to go to the lakes this weekend, at tea-time yesterday.

Come the warmer months, I'll drop an invite as early as possible, in case anyone would like to meet up, but for now it looks like it's just us for the -6deg they're forecasting in the valleys for saturday night! :D :D

Exactly, they are northerners

My mum comes from that area, & we've always called her northern. I think the story goes, my dad met this northern bird in the late 70s & thought it would be interesting to bring her down south & "civilise" her (or at least try)

God I'm glad she's not reading this :tune:

Funnily enough, my parents are talking about coming to my South East Meet, as they have holiday around then. This thread was originally intended as a plug for this meet, as there has been absolutely NO interest whatsoever (as yet). Maybe my parents being there could tempt some of the more sadistic members to come along & tell them all that I've been saying about them (my mum in particular).

Here's another vote for a proper northern meet: North Yorks, Northumbria, I am literally desperate to meet up with some other nutty camping folk. My tent is currently pitched in the back garden (taking it down tomorrow) ready for easter camping at Sandsend.

I'm in the midlands, so a northern meet is doable

All the campers seem to be up that way. Something tells me I'm living in the wrong area :(

Trouble is, I can't afford to travel this year, so it's back to solo camping for me.

I was always a solo camper at heart anyway ;) But if my fortunes change I will gladly come along to a more northerly meet.

Whatever you do, you lot, I wish you all the best for your meet(s) & camp-out(s).
