You could be right, seems JD sports don't have any camping gear at all in their stores, just clothing/footwear.. Thing is Blacks used to sell some really good tents..

Also Kodak is on the verge of administration too

We had been given some blacks vouchers at Christmas so we got into town quickly on Saturday. Unfortunately not a lot off that we wanted in either blacks or millets (the two shops are almost opposite at our town). Their decent tents weren't reduced, and although I wanted a new backpack, I'd rather get the gear first to get the right size rather than buy something just because it was cheaper but not right.

We got some bits and pieces though, but they don't have as much as you can get online. Perhaps part of their problem.

Also surprised that they have been operating two stores in many towns that both carry much the same lines.

I wasn't even aware that Blacks owned the Peter Storm and Eurohike brands either.....

Another blow for retail camping outlets as they say that underperforming branches will close too :(

Just reading the article it could be a good deal for both JD and campers. One of Jd's competitors, Sports direct, takes a hit as a major shareholder in the blacks group and Jd have said the brand will continue as a separate entity so campers should have more choice. Just a shame about the inevitable job losses to come.

It is a shame, I wasn't a big spender in Blacks but we've had a few items from them over the years and liked the shops.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

We used them a lot until recently and cutting back.. but then that's the issue we all are which is why this keeps happening we keep spending less they keep spending more trying to entice us to spend more..

I've had a really bad experience in Blacks with some unhelpfull staff, but that may have been a one off. Shame to see them close but no doubt the brand will carry on in some form or another.

From my perspective, no great loss.

I've found them to be neither inexpensive nor extensive in their range. I'm surprised that they have lasted as long as they have. Once Go Outdoors set up with their vast warehouse-approach then many campers would go there (not that I'm a big fan of Go Outdoors either) for convenience.

Blacks was clothing only no equipment other than our first ever tent.. Go outdoors we have purchased some stuff from them but mostley from a smaller local independent simply becuase they offer excellent eperienced help.. dont get me wrong im sure many of the stores offer the same but my local is run by a husband and wife for the last 20 years and the 20 years before that was one of their parents.. so in the same family for years. And many of the big chains either because of how busy they are or the age of staff just cannot match. but that said they still have a purpose for so many people.
