The site itself is a big, facility heavy, family friendly affair. It manages to remain quiet and friendly despite its swimming pool and clubhouse which could easily turn it into a Haven-esque commercial site. Its pleasant to find a site that doesnt sacrifice good service and peaceful surroundings for a greater profit margins.
It wouldnt be the type of site i would book for my own holiday but as a base for a group rally you cant fault it. The clubhouse serves excellent food at reasonable prices as well as a range of local ciders and beers. The playground and swimming pool will keep the kids happy and there is a well marked footpath just above the site which offers pleasant if unchallenging walking for the ramblers amongst you.
As with all such sites the tenters play second fiddle to the touring vans and the large collection of statics on site - i was a little dismayed this year to find that yet another section of the tent field had been terraced and turned into hard standing caravan super pitches. That said there is still a reasonable amount of space for lovers of canvas and the toilet and shower facilities are excellent. This is one site where you should never have to queue very long for a shower. All tent pitches now have the option of electric hook up too.
The prices have remained pretty reasonable too, although the peak season prices are hitting the top end now. But there again you get a lot for your money here and with the attractions of Cheddar and Wells just a short drive away you wont lack for things to do.
I love Derbyshire which is why i moved there but Somerset is easily my second fav county. Whilst Bucklegrove isnt the basic rugged site that I prefer it does do a lot right and is well worth considering.
