The DeWaard Lepelaar for winter camping

Postby rexgrant on Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:34 pm

Hi all
Expensive yes as tents go but not much more than the top outwells both Dutch. This link is to what I consider a four season tent for all year round family camping. http://www.dewaardtenten.nl/index.php/t ... onneluifel Just picture a force 9 winter storm swinging round to the front of your tent at three in the morning but with this tent with the zonneluifel pegged and zipped down there is no way in for the weather :tent: Dry ,warm, and very breathable made from the best cotton Canvas in the world TenCate (I think most will agree with that :bigwink: ) I have seen a few in my years of camping, and with the dutch been very proud of DeWaard they will always show you around.and they really are built like a brick wall, and with two of these Heatpals to give you 3kw of safe heat and will also boil and cook your food in the tent with no condensation http://www.tauntonleisure.com/tentipi-e ... -510/p1840 We know the rest 4 or 5 season sleeping bags and good under-bed insulation
But you need to be fit to hit all those pegs in :D
regards
Rex.

We bought one of those tin tents also.
But to be under canvas and awake warm and dry to a good fry-up Is what I will miss with this home on wheels we now take to camp :bigwink:

To be perfectly honest Rex, I will probably miss that too. Although I do have an awning.

I am keeping my tents though, the caravan is mainly for the local steam rallies (no facilities) & a few winter camps. I love my canvas, but for short stays it was all becoming a bit too labour intensive, as I always insisted on taking my full set-up.

The tent you linked to above is a true master. What a piece of kit. I love the pyramids anyway, but the Dewaard's really are the best of the best.

But as most will say the DeWarred is too expensive,??.
But you can have a cotton canvas tent, for far less, I bought this Cabanon Pyramid 4 with an extension awning for £300 three years ago off EBay. The 4.5 x 4.3 M poly-cotton Tatonka tarp 1 for £110 poles for £50, Two carp insulated mattress bedchairs £160, Two 4 season sleeping bags £200 and that set up would see me through some very cold weather without an electric Hook-up but by December I would prefer to have an heat-pal .but not realy required just My blood is not as thick as it used to be,different story with the head
http://.........../apps/photos/ph ... d=51192840 note the fire in the small fire-pit, it does not have to be warm to sit out under the tarp, the only tent in the field :bigwink: In this country if you want peace in your camp winter is the time.
Rex.
PS this little fire will keep you warm any time of year and when it burns down add some lump-wood and have a BBQ regardless what the weather is doing out there :bigwink:
