Tent needed for 5 people + dog!

Postby teacher_mish on Tue Oct 11, 2011 11:50 am

Hi everyone! I'm new on here - 1st post! We are needing to buy a new tent - to fit 2 adults and 3 children, aged 5 downwards, plus a golden retriever! At the moment we have a Gelert Cadiz 7 - very basic tent that leaked on our latest jaunt to The Lake District, hence us getting a new one. However I LOVE the size of the bedroom. I would just need it a bid wider to fit us all in, including the new addition that will be arriving next year ;) . We have been looking at the Montana 6, with the intention of getting the awning too, but I am worried that the bedroom won't be quite big enough (the dog will sleep in there too - he's such a big scaredy cat!), for all of us plus our bags. I need one big bedroom though - girls won't sleep in a separate bedroom yet, that can be sectioned off eventually. Will the Montana be roomy enough in the bedroom? Does anyone have any experience of fitting five+ in? Other suggestions will be warmly welcomed.
Camping is our only way of holidaying and after a few failed holidays where it constantly poured, we are keen to have a decent living area so girls can play and we can cook etc too. Cadiz wasn't big enough for us to sit on chairs even, ony the girls little chairs would fit, and we had to sit on the damp cold floor!
Also, do I hold out for the 2012 Montana (is there going to be one?) or try to snap up a 2011? However, finding a carpet and footprint, is proving to be rather difficult!
Any help and suggestions very greatly received and appreciated! Best wishes, Mish

Hi Mish,

:welcome: on board

Have you thought about something like the Kampa Filey 6 (http://www.kampa.co.uk/tents/filey6.html) similar in size to the Montana 6 but with an extra integral front canopy (useful to dry the dog off (or the kids) etc) before entering the living area.

I have the Kampa Croyde 6 which is fine for 4 of us, kids are 4&6 and we have it as one big bedroom. It's been a great a tent for us this year and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it but it might not be quite big enough for you all so the Filey maybe the better option, it is a big tent though.

Hello and a warm welcome to the forum.

I think the Outwell Vermont-L might have a sleeping area thats suitable.

Much wider than the Cadiz, although not as long. The two bedrooms can be made into one large bedroom, which is massive. The living space is nice, with a useful wardrobe area in the corner, that can be taken down for a larger living area. and a separate awning area for storage and cooking.

This is my daughter on our double bed with the cot at the side in the larger of the two sleep pods, the girls have both there sleeping bags in the smaller pod.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...
