Just a heads up really

Went to purchase the carpet, footprint, tent and extension all Outwell Montana 6 2011 from Go outdoors.

Since discovered through lots of painfull phone calls and trips to their store

********THEY ONLY STOCK THE 2010 EXTENSIONS AND AWNINGS THEY DO NOT SELL THE 2011***********

They have been advertising in sores and online that they are the 2011 model but I have started to notice this being changed since and do not display the year at all!!!! They are also pricey if you are only getting the 2010 model.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum.

Well spotted, sounds like a crafty underhanded sale. Thats two of us who aren't very happy with GO today

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

A friend of mine phoned up go outdoors today to get a price match on the awning and was assured that yes, there was a problem earlier in the season with the wrong model awnings being sent out but that has now been rectified and the 2011 models are now being sent out..... How will I know the difference between the 2010 and the 2011 models as I'm looking to get one asap. :bigwink:

Hello everyone...We bought our first Montana 6, I believe, in 2006. We bought our second "Monty" in 2009, after the first got a couple of leaks. Actually, they were not real problems and a bit of seam sealant would have helped. But, the wife said "get a new one". Anyway, apart from the side door canopy, which I've always believed to have been not much use anyway, is there that much difference. Would a front extension fit for any year, regardless of year of manufacture/purchase? Finally, how long would you expect a tent of this quality, in comparison to other brands, to last, considering we do about 6 weeks of high summer, well, as much as UK weather permits, each year.
Regards. Rick.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum :welcome:

Sorry I can't help with your question much, but there are a few Monty owners who should be able to help

How you can tell the difference with 2010 and 2011 extension is the 2011 has yellow piping around bottom, bigger windows, the hh is 1000 more, now hh 5000, and the weight has increased fom 9.3kg to 11.2kg for the 2011.When you come to buy one check the bag it's packed in for the weight as the you can't tell until unpacking otherwise. The piping and size if the windows will not match up with the tent if you mix the 2010 and 2011 tent/ extension.

Hi dibs
How long is a piece of string.
Polyester and all its other names that tent maker call it :tune: :bigwink: does not like Ultraviolet rays. So it all depends how long you leave the tent erected as to how long it will last. A few years back a good honest retailer joined a post were we were discussing this question and said that tents he had had out on display were starting to deteriorate after 6 months continuously open to UV The first things that start to happen is the material weakens and guy-rope attachments brake away. We then between us came to a suggested length of time a polyester tent would last with normal exposure would be approx 4 years. [[ This is not a fact just a consensus of opinions ]]
Regards
Rex.
PS even after 4 years it would be possible to go on using the tents for a few more years but they would not stand up to strong winds and rough treatment. :ugeek:

I don't disagree with you that Polyester has a life span under the sun, but moving on and it got me thinking about Polycotton tents. Does the polyester break down in a polycotton tent after 4 to 6 years
When we consider that Outwell is 65% cotton and 35% Polyester, we would be losing 35% of the tents Integrity. I don't know enough about PollyCotton, but it has me thinking :|

Hi
We got caught out by Go Outdoors! Bought an awning for our new Montana 6 2011 tent and when we went to try out our new purchases this weekend we were a little baffled to say the least!
I know on this forum it states that 2010 fit 2011 but they really don't and when you shoe horn it on it looks too small, the piping/patterns do not line up and the canvass doesn't sit right over the tent pole where the 2 overlap.
Having spent about an hour trying different things to make it fit (not to mention that the ground sheet had a hole in it and there was mud on the canvass and poles so was a previous return or display tent!) the windows do not have zips and the toggles for the doors/windows are a different style to the tent (I compared this with the Outwell video ref pitching the awning on their website).
Personally I would buy a 2011 awning for the 2011 model it went on eventually but it didn't fit right (the 1st pole didn't even touch the ground because the canvassed was overstretched and the material as it states on here is not the same HH.
When we returned it this afternoon the shop staff said they'd had another returned yesterday in the same state and were baffled as to why this was dirty/damaged and that they had a few crates of these in stock so something's gone wrong somewhere - having read this I might ask them to check the others aren't 2011 before they put them on ebay!

Borrowed our neighbours garden last weekend-ours has too many plants-and put the Monty up. Took the bed room out and had a good look round. Noticed 3 small holes which I applied patches to. Also noticed how dirty the tent was looking, and possible mould stains. The tent has faded quite badly. Have packed it away, but it maybe has had it's last outing. We have a Nevada M, but I find the bedroom cramped with our 2 camp-beds in. We have had a good 3 years use out of the Monty, and I am thinking of buying a new one for next year. So, totalling the cost of a new tent every 3 years, for at least 5 weeks a season, I can't complain. Rick.
