Gazebo Yes or No

Postby rexgrant on Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:16 am

Hi all
Now that manufactures have brought out safer day tents do you think the gazebo should be banned from all camping sites,
The build of the best gazebo's only makes a stronger kite in my opinion, and let us face it a gazebo blowing loose through a camp is likely to hurt campers or badly damage other peoples units, if campers only use them day time while they are on site they could take them down should a strong gusty wind start to blow, but to leave them up day and night like some do is certainly not been considerate in my opinion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aju2z1N0aOo&NR=1 or is this the answer :tune: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zocltEY3p5I&NR=1
This must be a far safer solution http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004TF7UFA/r ... B004TF7UFA

Rex.

During our weekend break last week there was a guy staying in his van & had a gazebo for cooking & shelter. He had left the gazebo up while he went out in his van, the wind got up & the gazebo became untethered at two corners & was blowing about, I pinned it back down to prevent it from becoming a kite, if people want to leave them un attended they need to be well pegged down

I am a serial gazebo user for my sins.......

One lesson I did learn a few years back when using several of them lashed together to form a club stand - lashing them down is vital. I didn't skimp on this either - I always use ratchet straps and large granite pegs to secure mine even now (see my gallery pics for examples) and although it looks overkill when pitching in light or no wind - I've not lost one since doing this even when pitching one on a seaside campsite (Newgale, Pembrokeshire) in gales.

I've only bought the cheaper ones too - no great loss if damaged in any way, almost treating it like a disposable festival tent if you like :?
