I hate Outwell tent pole shock cord.

General advice and questions on any accessories

I hate Outwell tent pole shock cord.

Postby Camp Moose on Mon Aug 29, 2011 6:24 pm

We put our Nevada up in the garden twice before goingaway this year it it was fine.
Got to Netherlands & found the shock cord in one of the poles had snapped.
Bit of a pain threading parts of the pole through one by one.
When we got home I emailed OutdoorworldDirect about it , who I bought tent from, & they very nicely sent me some new shock cord even though they said poles not covered by warranty.
No problem there.

Today I went out & bought a side canopy, got bits out bag & saw that cord had snapped on one of the poles.
Streched the two ends out after rethreading & tied together.
When packing canopy away & the cord in the other poles decided to snap.
Bloody rubbish useless stuff!!!!
ARRGGHH!!!
Still we managed to tie the snapped ends together.
Next purchase will be a nice long roll of strong cord ready for anymore failures .

In all the tents I've ever had over all the years I've NEVER had the cord snap.
Now this year I've had it happen 3 times.

We had a cord break when packing away our tent yesterday (1st use of the tent since as only bought it Monday).

Went to Go Outdoors & they replaced the whole pole set so no complaints.

Out of curiosity where can we buy some cord incase we get a breakage again out of warranty?

I've had a cord go on one of the poles on my wind breaker, still gone to this day.
Also one of the metal springs on the steel poles for the Vermont has gone, but manage with it gone.
I had a cord go on the Outdoor Revolution utility tent and I recorded that one.

Think that's it 3 in total.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Had the cord go in poles for the Outwell Nevada M. A cheap but fiddly repair, and the tent was only on its second outing. I still like Outwell tents though. Rick.

Usually shock cord snaps because the tent or tent poles have been dropped from a height of above 3 feet.

Usually this can happen in transit if the driver picks the box up lengthways, then drops it off the van. This forces the metal end to break through the shock cord.

Happens a few times every season for us to be honest. It's not new thing.

The poles bag of the tent has moon shaped holes in usually if it has been dropped, its fairly obvious sometimes
