Not busy this weekend?

Postby nutgone on Sat Jul 16, 2011 1:54 pm

Judging by the amount of activity on the forum this weekend, I would say there's a few of you who've cancelled their weekend camping trips due to bad weather???

I'm sure it hasn't been this busy here on recent weekends?

In fact, I've been finding lately that weekends on the camping forum can be quite a lonely time/place

& although I offer my condolences to all of you who are stuck at home this weekend, I do feel that I'm in good company.

So, every cloud has a silver lining, it would seem. & I'm sure the weather will pick up soon (I've never seen weather like it in mid July down here before!)
4 Canvas tents (various sizes)
3 Plastic tents (various sizes)
& 1 Tin tent (yes, I'm a turn-coat, but it has a canvas awning)

rubbish weather here and its the weekend before the last week of school - so lots of people are maybe preparing

I tend to dip into the forum (and a couple of others) as a diversion from PC work of some kind - having a home office has up sides and downsides I guess

We planned to go to Pillaton, but the rain forced us back. We got 200M up the road and turned back.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Yeh, I do and don't agree with you.
We turned back because we though it would be difficult with children stuck in a tent especially the youngest.

But we both agreed if it had just been the two of us we would have been happy to stick the tent up, relax with a book and listen to the rain without worrying about the phone ringing or the ironing or gardening or someone at the front door.

But yeh, its so much more fun when the weather is nice

Now I've got a tent with some living (& standing) space, I don't think it would bother me much either.

I just get a warm glow from camping anyway, & as a solo camper I'm VERY comfortable with my own company.

Can't deny a bit of sunshine is preferable though, & although we were taken camping in all weathers when I was a kid, things just seem to be different with kids today. Not saying it's any better or worse, just different.

We were discussing it last night, my brother, his wife & myself, how did we used to camp, as a famiy with small children (my siblings & me) without such luxuries as a fridge or cool box! The very thought of it :o
& as for the weather? My dad's work colleagues used to ask him to warn them when he was going camping, as they wouldn't plan anything at all because it nearly always guaranteed rain!

Not busy this weekend?

Postby Luiiz on Sat Jul 16, 2011 10:35 pm

I must say the weather has not been bad here the last two days. ( north west) Yesterday was lovely until around six when it spat for alittle while then just threatened!! Today has been a few small down pours but soon brightened back up. Let's see what tomorrow brings!!

Fingers crossed it's ok for the 27th onwards when I'm in the lakes!!
