Hi all,

I am driving to the alps next week with my daughter, she is having a 2 month stay with friends, I am just getting her there and then flying home a few days later, leaving the car with her.

We plan to have an overnight stay on the way and like the look of the municipel site in Metz.

Has anyone stayed here or got any advice about the journey.

I have googled a route to avoid tolls as I friend has said it can add 40 euros each way

Yes we stayed there overnight on our way down to Luzern in 2009.
We went through Belgium & Luxemburg so didn't have to pay any tolls on French motorways.

edit: Forgot to say, we got there about 7pm on a Saturday night in August & there was still plenty of room.
Just turned up no need to book.
A nice spot down by the river , I'd stay there again if needbe.

Got back Sunday, yes the Metz campsite is very nice and cheap, 2 tents, 2 people and 1 car £16 euros in total, would have been 12 euros if we had shared a tent.

Once I had dropped my daughter off at the chalet she was staying at I found a site just outside Morzine for 3 nights. Got to say what a stunning area this is, well worth a visit.
