Les Mouttes is situated in Carantec, a small harbour town in Brittany. It is set right on the beach, unfortunately it is a pebble beach completely covered in oyster shells. So not great for sandcastles! The town is small and very picturesque with a few quiet bars, seafood restaurants and creperies. There are a couple of nice sandy beaches lined with more restaurants and a square holds a market twice a week.
Onto the site. It is lovely. Nice grassy pitches with electric, situated off tree lined lanes. Lots of plant life and a small stream running through the middle. The toilet and shower blocks are modern and clean, with wet decks fitted, which is a nice touch. The reception is overlooked by the mini golf and is staffed by friendly English speakers. Opposite the reception is a well stocked shop, it sells everything you could want and fairly cheap too. Next to this is a souvenir shop and laundrette. Then we have the bistro, a nice little restaurant serving locally sourced French classics such as Moules Mariner and duck l'orange. Yum!
The best part has to be the pool and bar area. The pool is huge, it has a lazy river, 3 slides, 2 large jacuzzis, a nice deep open area for serious swimmers and a shallow toddlers pool. There are lots of sun loungers available. The bar area is also excellent. There is a large indoor bar with pool tables, Sky tv, and a disco area. Next to the main bar is a pizza and pasta takeaway. Again, yum! Opposite is a large stage area and outdoor dance floor. Another bar and ice cream shop complete the entertainment area.
There are a couple of nice little play areas for small children and a large playing field for sports. The kids club was closed when visited in May 2010 but looked brilliant!
Around the general area there are a few towns and villages with large supermarkets, where excellent wine can be had for £2 a bottle
We really can't wait to visit this site again. Pitches can be had for as little as £4 per night early in the season. We went with Canvas holidays in a 'supatent' which cost £230 for 10 nights including return ferry crossing. It is around 6 hours drive from Calais at a steady 50mph. We spent around £25 in tolls which is worth it, the roads are smooth and free of traffic.
Enjoy.
