Hi, me & My dog , Porridge have just got back from camping on Mull & Iona.
On Mull we stayed firs at Calgary Bay, wild camp on the beach, fantastic atmosphere, full of friendly folk, a great community spirit.
Then we went soth to stay at Fidden Farm campsite. The most beautifil setting ever ! Great new shower block, spotlessly clean with loads of hot water. met loads of great folk, I must go back there !

Sadly my 2 days on Iona were marred by the disgusting filthy facilities at Iona's only site. The woman running the place was rude & unhelpful. I had to ask her to clean the showers, they looked as though they hadn't been done in months ! Well the next day, the shower had been rinsed of all the dead bugs, but the floor was still filthy & 1 of the 2 loos was out of loo paper. basic facilities are fine but they must be clean !!!
I would reccomend anyone planning to camp on Iona to free camp.

We had a cracking winter holiday on Mull and Iona a couple of years back and fell in love with the place. The islands history and wildlife is both fascinating and amazing, to say the least. Calgary Bay is beautiful, no better seas anywhere in the UK.

We never stayed in the camp-site, but got the impression that most of the privately owned buildings/land were a little run down.

The campsite on Iona is on a working croft! (small farm) We have just started this campsite due to the need on the Island. There is no wild camping permmited on some areas of the Island!
In regards to the statement made by the woman and her dog! If the toilet door had not been left open, the insects would have not been in the toilet/shower block. The toliets are cleaned everyday, due to the ground being wet and grass being cut,you are going to get a dirty floors.
This is wild camping with toilets and showers provided! We are not a 5 star accomidation, the cost is only £5 pn.
Your behaviour was unexceptable, your expectations for us to call you taxis etc were not part of our service. I did not appreciate you using bad language towards my 11 yr old son who was trying to call you a taxi!!
In regards to also visiting our neighbours !They were also on holiday and were guests in our properties, this was not appriciated by anyone.
We have had only good feedback on our site, and campers who enjoy the quiet simple experiences of our campsite!
