Hi all,

following on from previous posts (searching for a problem to solve through product design) I heard that a common problem is; for backers, finding a compact stove that is stable on uneven ground. Also often, the arms are short and don't produce enough friction meaning the pan often slides off. I quite like the idea of re-designing the backpacker's camping stove. One that deals with stability problems, meaning you dont have to sit and hold the pan the whole time.

I would love to here your feedback on this;

- If you think it is a good enough problem to solve. Have you had similar problems with your stove?
- What the product should be/do (Adjustable levelling top? Adjustable base/legs?)
- What solutions you currently use to keep your stove stable while cooking (holding pan, putting sticks under stove etc).

We have a main stove, and also a small portable so we have an extra one if required. or if we pack most stuff up the night before and we just leave the small one out.

Thats only any good on stable ground. and you can only put a small pan on it.. the kettle although not that big, is a worry.

if your stove is flat drill hole underneath left hand side and use long socket that will fit stick it in the ground to prop it up and balance it like a leg say about 1/2 inch has to be able to take the weight

The Coleman Apex stove, which I use for mountain use, has a small adjustable screw on one leg, allowing you to level the stove. You don't normally carry larger pans so there is normally no issue of 'pan slide'.

I also use a stainless Trangia with a gas conversion. This is normally used for weekend camping or on main camps for any cooking that needs to be done outside e.g. CHIPS or bacon sarnies! It does not matter if this is not level as the pan can be levelled inside the wind shield. This is a VERY sturdy stove which is probably the safest stove on the market in my opinion - virtually impossible to 'knock' over, save for a good kick, which would topple any stove.
