Campingaz query

Postby camp on Wed Aug 11, 2010 6:12 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone know the average usage life of 901/904/907 Campingaz bottles for a dual ring cooker? (family of 4)

Also the prices and rental charge?

Cheers

Camp.

I should imagine they last quite a while, one of thsoe small gas cartridge (aeresol size ones) lasts us a weekend, though i don't do any major cooking.

I only use mine for mainly boiling water for tea & hotwater bottles, & we also have a fire attachment. Oh and bacon sandwiches. Have you got a huge kettle?

hi,

we've got a 907 bottle that we bought in 2004. we've used it for 6 short breaks in 6 years and we think it's not far off running out. we cook everything on it like it's our gas hob at home. spag bol and chili con carne over the bank holiday weekend just gone, plus bacon and sausage sandwiches and so on. plus I'm married to a tea addict. We have a 2 litre camping kettle and he's boiling it every hour on the hour.

so I guess if you were using it on every trip, 5-6 trips a year of more than 3 days duration, you might get away with refilling it every year or two.

I'm just trying to find a stockist so I can go and refill mine before my next trip away in 14 days

From my own personal experience Calor Gas Butane lasts a lot longer than Camping Gaz, I have 2 - 907 bottles, cooker, 100w lantern (mantle type) with extension pole and a heater that I don't use any more simply because it doesn't last, my cooker that uses Calor gas seems to last forever. The lantern used to last about 4 nights if I remember right, the heater even less.

I think its a 2 litre kettle, we used it for tea, warming hot milk (proper hot chocolate) bacon, and sausages

Been going through this with a few mates about the pros and cons of camping gaz/calor gas,

to give you an idea

your camping gaz 907 canister is 3.75kg + 2.7kg gas total 6.45kg

i have used mine for 2 short weekenders and i am down to 6kg weight i dont use it for every meal time and i wouldnt say it gets hammered its only used for the cooking on a camping gaz camping chef.

A camping gaz refeill = £18 from GO
I just picked up a 4.5kg calor gas = £11.99 this will last close to twice as long as the camping gaz 907

so to recap. Ditch the Camping Gaz and go to calor is the answer

Why does the calor gas last longer, do you know? Does it require a different regulator?

We've got a 907 (I think) and it's lasted 2 years of camping so far (that's 9 trips) we use it to make cups of tea, toast but not much meal cooking (although we do do some meals on it).

It just seems to last a lot longer, that's all I can say. The stove seems to be ok, it's when you attach the lantern or the heater, it doesn't last long at all, when you consider your getting about 4 or 5 nights if your lucky with a 100w lantern - and it's roughly £15 a refill then its starts getting expensive for something as simple as a light. As I have mentioned before, I don't use it at all now.

No it simply holds more gas. you get 2.7kg of gas in a camping gaz canister where as you get 4.5kg in a calor gas

No competition then really, as you said with calor gas you get twice as much gas - and it's roughly the same price.
