Vango Tigris 400 DLX vs Easycamp Boston 600

Postby janeypoos on Tue Aug 31, 2010 12:08 pm

Hi, I am currently looking to upgrade to a tunnel tent after too many uncomfortable trips with my son and our dog in our old Pro-Action Professional 4 berth.
The main criteria I am looking for are; sewn in/batch-tub groundsheet, standing height in all areas and sheltered doors. Other than that I'm fairly flexible. There will only be the two of us (and the dog) using the tent but we really want a 4 -6 berth with good living space as we have had enough of crawling around when it rains and not even being able to put more than one chair in the living area let alone cooking facilities, lol!
I've narrowed the search down to two tents, the Tigris 400 dlx and the Boston 600. To be honest I prefer the look of the Boston but am a bit concerned about build quality and that it may be too big for us (me!) to be able to out up/down easily. The Tigris would suit us better I think but is smaller.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I can't comment on the Boston, but I have the Tigris (800) and I'm really happy with it, which is surprising as I'm a bit of an Outwell Purest.

Oh and a warm welcome to the forum :D .

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Thanks for that Wayne. After trawling the net all day I've decided that the Tigris is my best bet for quality, value and durability. Do you use any other pegs with yours or the ones that came with it? Does it take long to put up/take down? I know the 400 dlx is a lot smaller than yours but I'd just like to know how easy (or not) you find it. I'll probably be doing it on my own as with a 13 year old it's often quicker and easier to do things yourself, lol!
And thanks for making me feel welcome, I was beginning to think I didn't exist, lol!

Hi , i have the Tigris 400 , it takes me and help from my 2 girls about half hour to put up, by the time i've fiddled about with the guys & pegs.
Happiness is packing your tent away dry & getting it back in the bag :-)

Hi

We also have the Tigris 400 and I think its a great tent.

We have no problem with the space as kids spend most of their time watching DVD's in the bedroom when we are inside.

The guy ropes take me longer to peg down than putting up the tent itself but that might be because I'm still learning

I got a great deal from Outdoor world direct with 15% discount through the forum :D

We have just got back from our first weekend with out Tigris 800 and we used the pegs that came with it in heavy clay ground the V shaped ones bent a little and where a real pain to try and get out this morning but Im guessing the harder that are to get out the better as it means they are doing there job. We are going to look at investing in some different pegs over the winter just because we realised if we bent one too much we have no reserve other than the standard pegs. My friend has the Outwell Navada L and was surprised at the quality of pegs we got with our vango so not sure what the difference is

Hi Jane.

Your question has been well answered.

The only thing I will add is that I use the pegs that came with it, however I did pick some spares up at about £3 for 10.

Also I keep my sleeping pods fitted to the tent and take it down as one for speed, but it does mean I don't use the bag it comes with, I use a large single bag that it all goes into. You'll see what I mean when you get it.

Oh and both my wife and I think its the easiest tent to put up / take down that we have (and we have a few). It really is worth watching the pitch video, I learnt from it.

Again, many thanks for all your help. I'll get some extra pegs when I buy it, maybe some rock pegs?
I looked at Outdoor World Direct and they don't actually do the 400 dlx, I think I meant Outdoor World, so I can't take advantage of the 15% discount. :(
Wayne, I've seen the video, thanks, and I learnt too. I didn't know to just put through the sleeves, concertina them all and THEN secure them, with out small tent we have now we thread and secure each pole as we go along which always makes it awkward but I didn't realise there was another way of doing it! I'll certainly do it the correct way in future.
Does anybody know of anywhere in Essex that stocks the 400 dlx? I can only get it online at the moment but I'm a bit wary as if there is anything wrong with it the postage to return it will cripple me!
Thanks again guys for the help, I'm already finding this forum a tad addictive. ;)
Jane.
