We use the in car charger for DS & phones.
We also have a cable that splits into two so we can charge 2 items up at once.
That was useful this last holiday, Tomtom plugged in one side , DS or phone in the other .

Yeah, the car will charge the stuff I really need. So it looks like initially its no microwave for me!!!!!!

And in my humble, complete novice opinion, anyone who camps without a whistling kettle just isn't really camping. ;)

Hi and :welcome: to the forum

A whistling Kettle is compulsory, no camp kit should be without one, there again, im getting like that with my coffee peculator now :) .. as for camping without electricity, i prefer it without, as when i take the EHU leads, i tend to take far more stuff than i need, and my poor little car groans at the thought of all the extra gear. as for cooking stoves, its probably better to just go for a bottle and regulator type, over a canister type,

When buying kit, search about and find the best deals,
Camping is an addiction, and YOU will become addicted...

Stove wise i was thinking something like this.......

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/elite-doubl ... ll-p152181

Yes? No?

Not done too much research on this but basically i need one of these, a gas canister and then a regulator which controls the flow of gas to ensure i don't blow up the site?

That's a decent stove alright - I'm currently looking for something along the same lines - but with a quest to find a grill that does toast (sounds simple but most gas stove grills are rubbish at this simple task) - and I had to add that it's well worth checking out ebay too as prices seem very good. Go to camping shops and have a look at some different models of stoves too - nothing beats having a closer look etc.

Basic models have no ignition (nothing wrong with that as long as you have a lighter / matches etc), whereas the posher brands have Peizo ignition.
If you have no desire to grill, you can get twin ring types without too...

I'm actually quite impressed with those single / double rings that use disposable cartridges too - although the cost of the replacement gas cartridges may be higher depending on how much you think you'll use them?

Oh yes, almost forgot to add - yes if you buy one of the models like you have shown, you need to add a hose from the cooker, plus regulator, plus gas bottle to your costings.

This last holiday we used 7 cartridges in 2 weeks.
Cooked main meal on it everyday as well as doing toast & boiling kettle.
Not everyones taste but I find it easier than lugging a gas bottle around.

Yeah grills seem to be an issue, i don't mind a bit of faffing around to get the the bread toasted in the "hot spot"

Gotta have toast in a morning though. (As stated above i'm trying the non-electric route first)

How long do the gas bottles last? If i'm going out maybe one weekend a month in the Spring/Summer and typically cooking breakfast and an evening meal (with a few cups of coffee from a WHISTLING kettle) how long should it last me?.

Gas bottle life depends on several things:

1) Type of gas bottle used.... I actually use Camping Gaz 907 bottles and they're lasting for several years between refills and I'm camping solo about 4 times a year and not using them for every meal etc. Not the cheapest to refill, but I've had them years so they don't break the bank.
Calor Gas bottles come in various sizes depending on how much room you've got to carry them to the site. Available in Butane or Propane (propane better for colder weather use), and refills cheaper.

2) Where you're camping.... in UK you'll get refills for all types fairly easily. Go abroad and you may have issues with getting some refills.

3) Cost to buy initially when you're thinking about how many times you'll be camping

Sorry for the newbie questions but I want to make sure i'm not buying the wrong stuff.

Would these power the gas stove I highlighted earlier?

no they wont work with that stove you looked at on Go Outdoors website.
Look at the 'features' under the photo of it, says.

•Connects to Butane/Propane 904 or 907 cylinders (not included)

Keep the questions coming, no worries about that.
If you don't know something just ask.

Righto, think i've found the right cylinders, about £100 should cover stove, gas, hose & regulator. About £20 a refill every so often, sounds good to me.

BBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - i've just checked the weather forecast and Sheffield looks like it's in for a rainy Saturday night. Was looking forward to trying it out in the garden.

To be honest i wont mind if it pees it down while I'm away but don't think i'll be setting up this weekend.
