Hello. My return to camping.

Postby ga-rat on Wed Aug 03, 2011 7:07 pm

Hello all...
I have just reserved a Pro Action 4 Man 2 Room Tent from Argos, I know this isn't quite the best tent in the world  but I will hopefully buy a better one at the end of the year or early next year if I get serious enough.

I am 35 years old living in cornwall, married with 3 children, My wife has no interest in camping at all and assures me she never will....(working on it though, I think its an insect/bug thing :? ). So to start with it would be me and my two daughters, ages 6 & 13. My son is only 18months so he would be staying at home with my wife.

I used to go camping as a child with my parents and sister, in a huge blue and orange house shaped tent, no idea the make or model.

The tent I have reserved is:- (I am going to go for the offer that includes the lighting set)

Just thought I should say hi, I will be asking for advice soon. I look forward to hearing any comments on the tent I reserved, don't be to harsh though :tune:

Hello and welcome!

I'm not keen on insects or bugs either, so my tents have insect proof mesh on the windows - and I'm fine.

Maybe she'll be converted when you have a fantastic time and tell her all about it! :-)
You are only jealous because the little penguins are talking to me

:welcome: to the forum :)

Doesn't seem a lot wrong with that tent judging by the reviews on the Argos site

Hi
Welcome to the forum :welcome:

The tent is a good starter but i have to admit my OH was the same and did not convert untill we had a tent with a sewn in groundsheet to keep the bugs out and a canopy to keep the rain out with the door open

closely followed by extended tables and chairs for the aforementioned canopy, a roofbox and trailer to carry all the extra gear for the canopy in................... and so the list goes on :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:

only thing that seems to be bad on the tent is the 1200mm HH,

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum.

Looks like a good deal on the tent

I agree the HH is low, but what your considering using it for and the price, I wouldn't give it another thought.

What is Hydrostatic head ?
Rain resistance is measured as a hydrostatic head in millimetres (mm). This indicates the pressure of water needed to penetrate a fabric. Heavy or wind-driven rain has a higher pressure than light rain. Standing on a groundsheet increases the pressure on any water underneath. Fabric with a hydrostatic head of 1000 mm or less is best regarded as shower resistant, with 1500 mm being usually suitable for summer camping. Tents for year-round use generally have at least 2000 mm; expedition tents intended for extreme conditions are often rated at 3000 mm

As you are just weekend camping for fun, its no hassle to pack up and come home if the weather gets really bad,,,,go for it

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Hi :welcome:
That Argos tent is the same one we had to start with :) . We actually abandoned it one weekend as the weather was so bad, but when we went back to get it, it was fine & hadn't let any water in. It was fine for a weekend tent, but we had the chance of buying a larger one, so i only use it occasionally now.
Happy camping :)
Happiness is packing your tent away dry & getting it back in the bag :-)
