I'm off to Pillaton in the morning for a long weekend, so catch you all later.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Yes, I understand you've been grounded?
I don't know the in's & out's of it but I hope you enjoy yourself when you make it out this month.

August looks like being a busy month for me also. I was camping last weekend (OK, so that was technically the end of July) & I will be camping again next weekend & again on the bank-holiday weekend. All these trips are steam rallies.
I've got another in September & hopefully a week of "proper" camping in October.

I guess August is the busiest month for most of us, personally I like to keep well out of the way during the school holidays, as I like my peace & quiet. Although I would never begrudge anybody's fun, especially families with kids, I think it's important they get to let off some steam.

So, whatever you're doing in August, I hope you enjoy it, & I hope the weather holds, at least so you don't have to pack any wet tents away :D

P.S. I've been reading a few posts (on various forums) about people getting stuck with bad neighbours on camp sites. It serves as a good reminder to myself that canvas (or any tent material) has virtually no sound-proofing qualities, & that whilst we all need a little fun this summer, it's always good to follow site rules, respect our neighbours, live & let live & do unto others as we would have done unto us (no I'm not religious, but I just like that saying  )

I'm sure there's plenty of room out there for all of us to enjoy ourselves without encroaching on the lives of others.

Now COME ON SUNSHINE! Where are you?!!

Finally my new tent arrived, too late for this weekend, but gave it a quick test in bro-in-law's garden, all looks good. The sacred Outwell doormat us missing though! Nooooooooo!

Have booked Meadow View near Wimborne for next weekend, really hard finding anywhere with a space in Hampshire/Dorset. Hurry up next weekend :-D

Watch those megabites Andy, you don't want a massive phone bill to come back to!

I've never thought of Austria as a camping destination, I had so much fun in France last year. I will be interested to see your pics, might try & get over to Europe again next year.

I have come back with a shopping list for tomorrow (my last day off) and a good tip.

Firstly, I have never ever come across ground so hard as the pitch I was on at Pillaton this time. I tried one of my outwell plastic pegs and half way into the ground it shattered. Luckily I had a set of rock pegs to hand in the trailer that I have never had to use. The only problem is the box contained 20 which I thought would be enough but with the canopy and tarp, 40 would have been better. I had some spare metal pegs that by going gently i got by, but it took awhile to pitch with all the fannying about. Had i got 40 rock pegs there would have been no issue. I also have a little claw hammer I keep with the rock pegs, which is a must, the mallets not much use with rock pegs.

So top of the list is a second box of rock pegs and I also need to get a new peg puller after one exploded removing the rock pegs this morning, again a claw hammer is a must.

I also tried out the microfleece towel this camp and I was well impressed so the other half is getting one. We're going to check out Go Outdoors at Stoke tomorrow.

Decathlon is good for microfibre towels if you have one near by.

Yazz was mocking/tutting at the selection of pegs I loaded up.. Deltas, rocks, plastic, wide sand and standard... To many she says! What's the point?

First stop

Deltas, wide sand and plastic

Second stop

Rocks and deltas

Now

Deltas and standard

To be honest bloody glad we had the selection.. The first stop sandy/dusty soil is the worst stuff Iv ever had to peg into nightmare!

Maybe a silly question, but what does a sand peg actually look like???

I'm not a great lover of the coast, I lived 40yds from Douglas beach in the Isle of Mann whilst growing up, I've never liked the smell of sea air much, but it dawned on me that sand isn't only found by the sea, so I should probably get myself a few sand pegs.

I call em sand pegs but don't actually know of that's what they are? I just remember my dad using them when I was little

Just like a flat plate of metel that is curved slightly I guess? I'll try and get pic at some point..

And this wasn't on the coast lol that's the strange thing lol
