The Camping Forum Club House (August 2011)

Postby TerryV on Thu Aug 25, 2011 10:00 pm

Got here about 5.30 after a 6 hour journey including a picnic in Buxton and an accident on the A55 meant we were stuck in traffic for ages. Its rained almost constantly save for a couple of hours to set up. Tent went up in heavy rain, but eased off for a while. Its heavy again now.

We are in Dinelle Caravan and Campsite near Caernarfon. Never been before. Wife booked it. Pitch is good, will fill you in on the rest later. Have got EHU so can watch the world champ athletics.

Beautiful sunshine, clear skies today. Views across Snowdonia stunning. Went for a walk along the beach today only a hundred yards from tent.

Facilities seem OK. Showers and toilets clean and washing up area OK. Kids haven't tried the play area yet plus we haven't tried the pool yet either.

Dinas Dinell has probably got 1 of the nicest beaches around that area, when we was away in June, we visited the beach from where we was located (Aberafon site, about 10 miles further down the peninsular). We are on about going there for 10 days next year, but that all depends on cost and available finances at the time. Only drawback with coastal sites is the wind, it can get a bit drafty at times if there is no cover available..

Yes its a lovely area. Site not too bad, but probably best avoided if you don't have kids as its heaving with them. Think it was a little pricey but could have saved around £50 on my son and his pup tent as he decided to stay at home last minute.

Hope it worked out for you Pogue. We've had a lovely weekend in Wales despite the weather and still have another 4 nights left.

Glad your having a good time Terry, fingers crossed that things improve for you Pogue

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Just thought id share somthing which I'm sure a few of you will be interested to know the results.

New bbq has proper lid and vents.. a first for me so im currently trying to cook a whole a chicken :)

Beer can style :)

Only difference is im having to try it with the chicken flat so the can has been crushed a little with the ringpull end sealed and some new holes in the side..

I will feedback in a few hours.. :)

K so no photos its pretty dark out.. but i will be revising the method and doing it again in the daytime and take photos along the way.. It works though you really can with ease and little involvement cook a whole chicken on the BBQ.

I rotated the chicken only the one time.. and had to add some more brickets.. that said i never had enough in the first place so suspect I wont need to do this next time.

Im going to forgo the can next time and get one of those metal muffin tins instead that way i can fit it in fully and still keep the chicken flat..

If you like your food smoked and the taste of it then this really is for you.. you can really taste it and its cooked evenly also.. to be fair i could of done with taking it out a bit sooner but we had family over and i forgot about it lol.. I think a small chicken could be roasted in around an hour and half..

Next time Im going to part boil some pots and then put them in a little oil in one of those tin foil Chinese takeaway tins and do the pots also if they work out then thats it! Roast whilst camping is easy :)
