cook what you have at home on the cooker, you dont have to use the oven all the time, depending on what things you have depends on what you can cook, there was a recipe thread at one time, and other threads on what people cook,

my next camping venture ill be trying to cook pizza in my gas bbq, it does great jacket spuds :)

There are loads of things that are easy to cook on a camping stove.

We have quite simple stuff, pasta, soup, fry ups that kind of thing although I know others are more elaborate in their culinary exploits :-)

Barbeque's are popular too.

food???????????

We cook some things at home, freeze them and take them in our cool box/fridge. They help to keep the temperature sown and they are easy to heat up. Things like chilli, spaghetti bolognese, stew. Just need to boil some rice or pasta and you're done :-) Stir frys are easy if you take pre-prepped veg with you.

Ditto above. We also found the pre-cooked microwave rice (Uncle Bens) works great as a quick to cook meal. We cooked up some sausages, chopped them up and then cooked the microwave rice in the frying pan with just a little squirt of spray oil (brilliant product!) and stir the chopped sausages through. Chunk of bread and a warm beer and you're done!

I try and think of student/end-of-the-month type cooking puts you in the right place to start with what works in a field..... ;-)

That sounds gorgeous :clap:

You had me confused with the "microwave" rice ut just as im about to pack the microwave the nifty bit came up!

We are having spag bol as its cheap, easy and the kids devour the stuff!

Was thinking of a "tin can stew" using Home and bargain cheapies mixed together and seasoned to then serve with crusty bread - as an emergency quick feed for the kids.

The other two things I like to use, especially if more wild camping are Pepperami's which are UHTreated so can survive without refrigeration for some time and are great chopped up in things like soup, rice, pastas etc., even salad. Chicken Kebabs are also easy to prepare and cook and usually hit with kids.

Also my boy LOVES choccy bananas - take banana, split the skin and wedge in cadbury's buttons along its length, zip it back up and wrap in foil and warm over the fire for a bit. The buttons melt into the banana giving it a lovely, marbley chocolately taste!! Stuffed baked potatoes are also nice....cut top of spud, scoop out some of the middle, add an egg and or cheese, little bit of butter, add top and secure with cocktail sticks. Wrap in foil and cook on fire. Loverly!

We usually have the bbq first night :clap:

Then one night may be tinned curry with the micro rice and nann breads (put the breads over the frying pan when heating the rice).

Also use the bbq for jacket spuds (they crisp really nicely) and also corn on the cob ... just wrap in plenty of foil :cool:

I bought one of these;
http://www.in-a-tent.co.uk/product/1082/Backpackers%20Pantry%20Outback%20Oven%2010

I got mine from an ebay seller, they were advertised for £44.99 buy now or best offer, well I got an offer of £25 accepted, although that was a couple of months ago now, but for anyone interested it's worth starting at this number, you can always go up.

I use it to cook pizza, although it takes some getting used to, & it will take considerably longer than a household oven. The trick is to try & cook with the lid slightly askew, as they tend to trap moisture & stuff doesn't brown very well (if at all), still tastes the same though.

Last year in France I cooked all sorts of stuff, nothing too adventurous, although I did develop a taste for confit-de-canard.

This year I've been stuck in good old England, but I do have my oven thingy, so I can now cook microwave-type ready meals (the ones which go in the oven as well) like lasagne & cottage pie.
I've even done cupcakes in the stove-top oven. They didn't brown but tasted great. I did a small thread on it, but can't find it, maybe I was thinking of something else. Anyway, the review is all mine :D

3 Plastic tents (various sizes)
& 1 Tin tent (yes, I'm a turn-coat, but it has a canvas awning)

Noodles, boiled eggs, ham & hot dog sausages.

New potatos, carrots, peas & Hollandse Hachee* from the local Dutch supermarket .

* see http://www.typicaldutchstuff.com/struik ... cgt8k38no5

Funny cos I thought Hollands Hash was something else . :)

Seconds thoughts it might be this cos one night we had Hachee next night Goulash so i'm not sure what that was cos they both looked similar.

We do this as well. On our recent camping trip I cooked a chicken curry and a bolognese and froze them. Popped them in the cool box and used them as we needed them just cooking some rice and pasta. Stir fry is another good one. Also we usually try to find a nice farm shop or butcher and have a BBQ one night.
