3 Wheels On My Wagon

Postby Miss kitty on Wed Jul 06, 2011 5:45 am

Took the caravan out for the first time and the inside wheel came of while driving down a steep hill...........
All the wheel nuts had sheared of, I found 4 out of the five...
Inside the wheel arch had melted.....Caused bloody ructions on the rd as I had to park up on the hill...thank god for camping club members who rushed to my aid.............................
Now asking why did I sell the motor home...lol.........KX

I hope you are all okay. I recently sold a motorhome and know how much damage a broken wheel can cause. Hope you get it sorted soon
Had pup tent > caravan > family tent > motorhome > Gelert Beyond Corvus 6+2 tent with trailer and top box. Lol.

It a horrible thing to happen, but I'm glad you bought it to the attention of the forum.

This serves as a timely reminder to service your caravan chassis regularly, or have it serviced of you're not mechanically minded.

It sounds to me like either the wheel bolts were loose (this will cause them to sheer off) or something else was wrong (maybe a seized wheel bearing). Either way, a service would've picked it up (or should have, there's always those freak accidents that happen, regardless of servicing).

You see, it's not like a car, where you'd hear if it was loose. You're not sat inside it when it's moving, so you can't listen for strange noises.

I hope everyone was ok & you got it all sorted in the end.

oh sorry to hear about your accident!! I hope you can get back out on the road soon... reminds me to get everything of mine checked out though, I'll take it as a warning. Thanks.
To pitch a tent or bring a camper, that is the question.

Not good, hope its not been to expensive to sort out, at least no one was hurt.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...
