I'll paraphrase the results - "Don't drive near Buxton"

MOST DANGEROUS ROADS

* A537 Macclesfield to Buxton - Cheshire/Derbyshire
* A5012 Pikehall to Matlock - Derbyshire
* A621 Baslow to Totley - Derbyshire/South Yorkshire
* A625 Calver to Sheffield - South Yorkshire
* A54 Congleton to Buxton - Derbyshire << Isn't Congleton in Cheshire?
* A581 Rufford to Chorley - Lancashire
* A5004 Whaley Bridge to Buxton - Derbyshire
* A675 Blackburn to Preston - Lancashire
* A61 Barnsley to Wakefield - South/West Yorkshire
* A285 Chichester to Petworth - West Sussex

I can understand that some raods can catch drivers out, but would it be fair to say that most of the roads are not dangerous just the complete lunacy of some of the drivers.

The A9 in Scotland has been named a dangerous road at times. I remember driving up to aviemore and your having to deal with drivers overtaking on blind corners what chance have you got if your traveling in the opposite direction.

Which is really useful information to know,,,,,since I use the first 5 roads and the 7th quite often :o

Yeh Congelton is near Cheshire, the A54 from Congelton is the Buxton Road.

I think the main problem with these roads are there in the Peak District and its drivers enjoying the views a little too much, also there are some long straights up in the hills, but often end in sharp corners or steep drops with hair pins between rocks etc

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

When I were a student in Sheffield I used to drive home to Cheshire over the Cat and Fiddle and there are places where it's pretty lethal but it's due to the nature of the landscape more than anything else. Oh and the sheep.

I remember several times coming round a blind corner to find a flock of sheep in the road.

Reading the article it seems that a lot of the casualties on those roads are motorbikes at the weekend, as when they removed motorbike accidents a different road was the most dangerous. Not sure whether that means that bikers take more risks on those roads, or what. Most motorbike riders seem to be acutely aware of the dangers of riding, but I guess if it's someone on a Sunday run on unfamiliar roads. As Wayne said there are very unforgiving, they feel like a real fun place to ride, wide open views, twists and turns and so on. The trouble is if you get a twist or turn wrong (or a flock of sheep are in the road as you sweep around the curve) then you plough into a stonewall or plummet of the side of a bog drop. That's not good.

I had to look it up but Congleton is def. in Cheshire. Feel a bit ashamed I had to check as I grew up about 15 miles from there.

Cat and Fiddle is a good biking road - they have put a 40mph speed limit on it now haven't they (read something about it somewhere)

The most dangerouse road I have ever been on was between Hawes and Kettlewell nr Hubberholm. Came round a corner and rhere was a car in the road that kept coming and didn't move over and kept on going past me and off to wherever she was going. Unfotunatley I kept going straight down the dry stone wall and off to Northallerton Hospital for the rest of the day/night. (excuse my typing but i'm minus 2 fingers at the moment till they mend :) )

I think this explains

:lol: :lol:
No that was Monday 21st June lol
Didn't realise a broken finger was such a pain - it's not strapped to the other one anymore so now only have the one out of action.

I'm surprised that there aren't some roads in Cumbria on that list - or North Yorkshire. Ususally all the 'bike' roads make it onto thses lists.
