Our Classic Folding Caravan

Postby Huff on Thu Mar 17, 2011 1:47 pm

Though you guys might like to look at some pictures of our 1962 Folding Camper/Caravan that we have named Herbert :D

He is a one off prototype built by the Everyman company (which later became part of Conway) but was deemed too complex and expensive to produce so no more were ever built.

We have owned Herbert for a few years and have only had to make minor improvements, a lick of paint and a bit of basic rewiring.

 That's pretty cool, never seen one quite like that before. I love classic stuff

Do the cupboards unclip and stow away into the lower section for dismantling then,,,,,how long does it take to set up once on site.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Yup being the prototype its totally unique which is what we love about it.

The main cooker unit in that picture is on a cantilever which drops it down on to the floor, the upper cupboard just unclips and is stowed between the seats.

We can have it set up and the kettle on in under 10 minutes.

Cheers for adding the images

Yes we use it all the time, we took it to Buxton last weekend for a little run out and we are off to the Cotswolds in it at Easter time. It's really well insulated so it remains warm and comfy even in crappy weather. It really is a work of engineering genius.

It was painted the lovely shade of grey and beige that you see in most of the pictures when we bought it, we have since repainted it in the more appealing blue and white two tone that you can see in the first pic

Quality! I like it alot.

I'm going folding mad this season, just got a very cool folding walkstool 55 off ebay, had a folding tent in early May, and now these folding caravans could be the next thing.
