Advice: Teesdale & Kirkcarrion.

Postby Manowar on Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:45 pm

Hi all.

I had my first "wild camping" experience last August when a friend and I camped in Middleton-in-Teesdale & Barnard Castle, North East England. Since then, we've camped in various other parts of Teesdale and last October we camped for a week up in the glourious surroundings of High Cup Nick.

I'm thinking of taking some time off work at Easter, and we're planning on doing a spot of wild camping. We are savvy with the rules of wild camping (take all your litter with you, make sure you left the spot as you found it etc, don't poo within 30 metres of running water etc), and we're interested in camping near a place called KirkCarrion, up in Teesdale.

The main reason we want to camp at Kirkcarrion is because of Kirkcarrion itself. For those who don't know, its an ancient burial ground that supposedly embraces the grave of a King from the Bronze Age.

For those who know and have been to Kirkcarrion, I pose this question. Is there any good wild camping spots in close proximity to the location of Kirkcarrion? Or, are there any other good camping spots in in the area and Teesdale that you guys think would be nice to explore?

Any advice would be great.

Hello!

Have been looking for places to wild camp in the North East, having not done so before in England (only Scotland where there aren't the same laws and regulations). Can you tell me where you camped near Middleton in Teesdale and what it was like? I'm looking for somewhere where we can camp legally with a bunch of teenagers without getting ourselves into problems - somewhere with access to water and where we can pitch a couple of tents out the way?

Any suggestions from your experience greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi Manowar & bepinkth and a warm welcome to the forum :welcome:

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...
