Reccommend a site in North Wales

Postby LittleSkink on Sun May 22, 2011 10:51 am

we have just decided to take the kids to North Wales for a week or so in the school summer holidays. While Shell Island does appeal we are after somewhere a bit smaller/quieter and closer to Sheffield (Llandudno is 2 hours from us, Shell Island is well over 3 1/2 hours). One of our little ones gets car sick sometimes so even 2 hours driving can be many hours of travel

Ideally we were after a flat site (I hate slopey pitches) family friendly but quiet. It would be nice to be close to a beach but that is not essential

Plan to go in the Frametent but dont do EHU so like to have freezer facilities for the Igloo and a little shop for fresh milk

thanks folks

I can recommend Peniarth Bach Farm in Betws-Yn-Rhos

I think its about 2 or 2 and half hours from Sheffield. its quite close to the beaches and if your lucky enough to get the right pitch you can just see a bit of the sea.

There homepage

My camp Diary about the site

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Although not any nearer to Sheffield (I've just come back from a Cub Scout camp at Hesley Wood near Sheffield) you should consider Nantcol Waterfalls (quite near Shell Island but inland and sheltered) - the kids will love it with its stream and shallow pond and walks. Also Llechrwd is good in many respects. Near Bala I've been to Tyn Cornel which is very good (including outstanding shower and toilet facilities) and I'm going to Bwch Yn Uchaf which looks excellent.

Hi
Last year we had a trip to Fron Farm at Mold in Flintshire , North Wales and really enjoyed it .

Here's a link to their website ....http://www.fronfarmcaravanpark.co.uk/

One thing we found , this place was really family friendly , our daughter who was aged 9 at the time and our friends who came along with us , son who was 6 thouroughly enjoyed it and keep asking if we can go back again this year , we probably will at some point .

There was a good play area , allocated times of the day when the children could help with the feeding of the farm animals . They also organised family friendly nature trails and woodland walks .

Most of the days we were there they did pony rides around the paddock there , this was just a couple of pounds , but all the kids got a Fron Farm rossette afterwards to keep as a souvenier .

All the kids on the campsite ( and some of the mums and dads too) , went wild for the tractor sledging . No charge as such for this , but did ask for donations , the owners did this for charity , (Alder Hays childrens hospital , whilst we were there )

Just and so over the Welsh Borders , so places like Chester , with its zoo ,still within easy reach , Blue planet aquarium very good too . Although we did'nt , the coast and places like Ryhll and Llandudno would'nt be too bad driving distance to visit .

Going without EHU ( As we did ) , I would reccommend asking to be pitched on the "Harvest" field , this was the smallest and most secluded of the camping areas , but had no ehu hook-up points .

There was a freezer available to use , and the reception sold a few of the essentials , milk bread etc .

been going to fron for around 5 years now, ceri and dylan have spent silly amounts of cash on the site over the last few years, and Ive been told this year hes put more EHU's in, (not sure of where abouts, though, we have our normal area we ask for (pitch 35 upwards) I never understood what the feild names are, when i ring up to order, its a case of, """dylan its ady from xxxxxxxxxx, can i have x pitches x with ehu at out normal area if poss" then give the dates ect,
after thats sorted its then ask for the wooden wheel to be dropped off four us..

Fron farm is a great place, should be on every bodies visit list,

We've been to this one a couple of times. It's one of the best sites we visited anywhere and only 5 mins from the beach.

Not sure how long it would take from Sheffield but takes about 2 hours from Nottingham.

from Mold you have as far down as Aberystwyth across to Alton Towers up to the south lakes all available for day trips.

I grew up in a little village just outside Mold.
Quechua 6.2XL , and now an OUTWELL Vermont XLP . not as bitey in real life as i seem online.

Reccommend a site in North Wales

We'll be back to Wales again this year after a lovely time last year. We stayed at Dinas Dinlle which is a lovely site. Hoping to walk some mountains again.
