If you have the space test pitch your tent and setup before you go away for the first time.

That way you are not only sure you have a good idea what your doing. But also highlight any issues or possible kit you may have missed.

EDIT: Excellent topic BTW!

Remember your tent pegs. From experience - circa 1984.

Now I'd say, don't load the car to the limit as you can guarantee there will be less space on the journey home.

All I have to do is listen to my own advice now.

Make sure you are warm enough at night.

I learned that lesson well in September!

As a born again camper I would say make sure you have the right choice of equipment to sleep on - test air beds/mats/camp beds at home before you go. Nothing worse than a bad nights sleep and waking up aching and miserable.

If you use a large gas bottle and tube to your stove, carry a smaller emergency stove......

Like this one, always handy as a back-up if you run out of Gas.

Nope, never took it out of the box. But, the salesperson said this tent was super easy to set up; even in windy conditions...

Always have more layers under you when you sleep than above, as the cold rises through airbeds, campbeds not sure if this is an issue with sims, and i dont have one..

Beat me to it grrrrrrrr

Excellent tip- will take few extra blankets in future- will this help with everything feeling slightly damp- or is that in the air????

The dampness is generally in the air and you will never get rid of this just make sure you have some vents open and that will help.
I use the silver backed foam underlay (for laminate floors) under our beds and it makes a lot of difference

I'm another one for keeping warm at night. Also change into your night clothes before it starts getting cold. :)
Happiness is packing your tent away dry & getting it back in the bag :-)

Do a lot of research on sleeping bags, shop around, find the best bag you can afford at that time, then wait another month or so and save up to buy it's big brother. Do not scrimp on a bag. A cold nights restless sleep will ruin a camping trip. A warm, snug comfortable bag will MAKE your night out something you want to repeat time and time again. :D :D

Tip: Unzip the bag and hold it up to the light, if you can see daylight through it, it's no good! :bang: Unless you're going to Ibiza in Summer!!

Always take some sort of hat or cap, as 80% of body heat is lost through the head...
